Hey Charlie it´s Khareef! Remembering all the good times we had together hanging out with your family around that beautiful house in Shaker. Occasionally I would accompany the Alper family for dinner at the CSC. During winter/springs months we would venture to nearby towns & states for hockey tournaments & often win! We spent a lot of time together that I will always cherish my brother big love 4ever

Every year on this day, we have said a prayer and remembered your kind and gentle spirit, wisdom beyond your years and felt your presence and love despite your physical presence being gone. Your beautiful Spirit led us to reconnect with Margaret as she ran the NYC Marathon in your honor and to reconnect with your dad. I know you are watching over all of us beaming love, comfort and peace to all who were blessed to know you. So many memories of you warm our hearts today and every day.

It really is hard to believe that 13 years has passed. We know your spirit travels with us on our personal journeys - a light that will never fade or diminish...we miss your smile as badly today as ever - peace and comfort to all who loved you on this day of remembrance...

A dozen years since we lost your smile and sweet nature. Remembering what a great son, brother and friend you were...your generosity and fond memories like the time we did the tail of that 11 pound lobster you caught in Green Hill...when your brother spoiled your home run with a left field catch and your performance in Brighton Beach Memoirs...watching the Charlie´s Bench Video on YouTube I yearn to be back there and feeling close to you - to be where you and Jonas romped on the beach...missing you and always loving you Charlie...peace on this March 4....love Dad

It´s hard to believe it´s really been as long as it has. Memories of you jumping from cliffs, working beside us on the farm, some absolutely silly late nights, and a few early morning calls to get you to Pt. Judith for your next departure. Always wild-eyed. Sharing stories of your wildest adventures in the mountains, in an icy Alaska, and evermore out to sea. I think of you often when I´m on the water, and especially when I venture offshore. I can recall a few early mornings on watch, when the seabirds carried the sunrise to me, and I like to think that you are with them; that you have found your peace.
Several years back I saw your Brother in a crowded Farmer´s market near where I lived in CA. I thought I´d see a ghost and stuttered and somehow he knew why~ and it was kindred to meet him.
If your bench is out there, I´ll try to find it. In the meantime, I´ll remember you wide eyed and focused on the next adventure. I´ll try to keep my adventurous spirit out there in the wilderness appreciating Nature, and I´ll always keep an eye out for you.
You´ll not fade away, friend.
Big love to your family and anyone else who cared about you who is thinking of you now.

I remember Charlie as an intellect. Charlie told me that his favorite subject in school was history. One of our memorable conversations was about a book called A People's History of the United States by Howard Zinn. We both enjoyed the book and its factual recordings of American History. He was surprised to hear that I had been assigned to read it for one of my history classes (School One). I was surprised that he read the book and other history books for enjoyment. ;)
I recently bought my 10 year old son A Children's History of the United States by Howard Zinn. It brought back memories of Charlie.

Charlie - tomorrow will be 11 years since you left us but your smile is still bright in my memory! and I can hear you greeting me with your "old man" nick name in my mind. You´re always in my heart especially when I cook scallops, play a scramble on the golf course or look out at the waves...I know you´re at peace and around me when I need a reminder or need to be stopped from doing something stupid...I love you and miss you but sense you´re in a peaceful place and that at least offers a bit of comfort...

It was my husband, Randy, who introduced Charlie to the fishing industry (lumping at first under Wayne´s guidance). Charlie spent a lot of time with Randy and our family loved him. Charlie held a very special place in Randy´s heart. I like to think they are together in the spirit world talking story like they used to. He is always remembered with warmth and love by us.

Happy Birthday Charlie!
Wow the big 32 is what you would have been…I miss you and love you so much.
What an irony – the final song in spin today was Hallelujah – the one we used on your Bench video – too bad we could not visit it this year now that we are here in SC – but we will take a beach walk later today in your honor.
We had amazing calamari last night in Charleston - crispy with corn and bacon – two orders! Linda and I loved it. By the way she would have loved you and you her!
I can imagine what it would feel like to give you a big hug – your two hands slapping my back in your signature style and saying “thanks old man” when I say happy birthday.
We watched The 100 Foot Journey last night and when the father, full of pride hugged his son – a chef – who returned to their French village from Paris to stay at the their small country restaurant – I sobbed uncontrollably – yearning for you and that feeling of pride I had for you so many times – after hockey (I remember that winning assist at a tournament like it was yesterday and my screaming into the video camera – gotta find that tape!) and soccer games; when you got those Scholar Athlete awards and of course when you starred in Lost in Yonkers at Rocky Hill School. I still have the picture of us from that night.
Remember the night in Green Hill with the two gigantic lobsters you got on the boat and we invited Bonnie and Mal to come over and share?
I called Daniel Charlie about a dozen times over Thanksgiving because he looks so much like you when you were in Alaska (or maybe because I miss you so much).
I hope your soul is at peace and in a good place – because that is the only way I can be at peace with your leaving us so early – it still pains me to my core and the empty hole created by your loss will always be there.
We will toast you tomorrow when we have my scallop dish – a three “heat” sauté with grapefruit, scallions and garlic. And listen to your playlist we made in March 2011. And think of you this afternoon as we look out at sea.
With deepest love and yearning,
Dad and Linda

Dear Alpers, I happened to be in church Sunday when the minister lit a candle in Charlie's memory. Carter told me he requested it after catching up on your guestbook and seeing the artist painting from Charlie's bench. The lighting was a lovely memorial as is the bench itself. I'm sure it will provide people with much pleasure.

Love the picture of the bench and the nice posts about Charlie. I enjoyed coaching him in Shaker Youth Hockey and often think of the bond he had with my son Carson (now living in Boston) and the time he spend with us. Lot of great hockey trips. And, he attended the same church school classes with Carson (First Unitarian of Cleveland). Will ask that they light a candle in his memory this Sunday at Church

When I read the paper I was so hoping for you that this was not your beloved Charlie, I am truly and deeply sorry. My closest friend recently lost her son also another beautiful, talented and loved young man. She asked her closest friends how she and her husband were going to get through this and the response that stuck in my head was, "together", with the help of all of our friends we will, together. I hope our paths cross again and until then please know I think of you often and will pray for your peace, your friend, Corrin Guarriello
