Charles Alston Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 5, 2018.
On Saturday, November 3rd, 2018 heaven gained a musical angel after Charles Alston lost his battle with cancer. Charles was born on July 20th, 1955 in Fort Dix, New Jersey to parents Charles Alston Sr. and Patsy Eaton. Charles lived in the Corpus area for quite some time and graduated alumni from the Mighty Bucaneers, Roy Miller H.S. He then moved to Houston and eventually resided in the Katy area.
Charles was quick to light up a room with one song, probably most well-known for Amarillo by Morning from George Strait. Singing and playing the guitar is the family's most fond memory; whether sitting by the camp fire, around the Christmas tree or just hanging out in any setting. Charles loved the outdoors, fishing, believed he was to be the Happy Gilmore of golfing and a very healthy appetite for working. Work was a sense of passion for Charles to lead people, to build from ground up and to increase the bottom line. Charles followed the family trade as a Master Plumber, worked in HVAC as an estimator and project manager. Charles was spiritual and through the last few years grew exponentially in his walk with God. He was at peace with knowing that he would be lifted up to the heavens to be with Jesus and passed loved ones. He deemed himself blessed for the relationships he built with family and friends and what he had accomplished in his life.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents Charles Alston Sr, Patsy Alston and long-time significant other Debra Franklin. Charles was a loving father and is survived by daughter, Valarie and husband Gilbert Bassett, his son, Jacob Alston; his sisters: Dena Carr, Melinda Fogleman, Cindy Thornton and brother in laws: Les Carr, Charles Fogleman and Fred Thornton; grandchildren, Maya Bassett and Trinity Carter and many nieces and nephews to include Chris Miller, Jonathan Fogleman and family, Michael Fogleman and family, Katie Brewer and family, Matthew Turner, Chelsea Koronka and family and Garrett Thornton. Charles was also survived by two step daughters from a previous marriage that he maintained a close relationship with Amie Thomas (Kristie Thomas), Christie Zerger (Sean Zerger) and children also seen as grandchildren Kelsy, Oryan, William, Clayton, Briana and Maddie. Charles being the man he was always looking for his next apprentice was also survived by Troy Cooney whom he came to love as family and who called him Dad.
The services will be held on Saturday, December 1st, 2018 at 2pm by Pastor Roy Meadows at the Westland Baptist Church in Katy, Texas. (1407 West Grand Parkway South, Katy, TX 77494) (281-392-5099). The family is requesting that all flowers should be delivered to the church Friday or Saturday for services. Should you choose, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) in Charles Alston's memory. We are honoring Charles Alston Jr. who loved John Wayne and all things country western by wearing blue his favorite color, dressy denim and boots at the services.
