TERESA ISABEL MERCADO, Ph.D
Peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, March 11, 2012. Of Ponce, Puerto Rico, and Bethesda, Maryland. Doctorate awarded by Catholic University of America, 1947, and numerous publications during her decades of research in Tropical Medicine with the Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIH. Born October 15, 1921, the beloved daughter of the late Joséfa Mercado and predeceased by her cherished siblings, Rafael G. RamC-rez and Pura E. Pola. Survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends. Family and friends will gather for visitation at Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home, 7557 Wisconsin Ave., Bethesda, MD on Friday, March 16, from 7 to 9 p.m.. Visitation again at 9 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 7500 Pearl Street, Bethesda, Maryland where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 17, 2012. Interment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Teresa Isabel Mercado, Ph.D. to: Msgr. Quinn Education Fund, Our Lady of Lourdes School,7500 Pearl Street, Bethesda, MD 20814.
