Meme, Jen, Tim, Melissa, Allison, Tim, and Mary Kate,
Please know we have been thinking of you. What an upbeat person Pepe was -- the glass was always half full. To this day I often click to donate free food to people in need at a website he shared with me. I will share it here ... I am sure Pepe would be okay with this. www.thehungersite.com

Peace to you all,
Laurie

To all the Bernats,
Please accept my deepest sympathies for the passing of your Dad. The world has lost a good one.
I have such fond memories of your Dad. Always the smile on his face and that little thing he did, the reverse whistle through his teeth. It was a joy to play basketball on his driveway. I particularly remember the plaque he installed-"Training court of John Wessling Metro Conference scoring Champ". What a thoughtful man! The ingenious way he built the dog house into your house. Beautiful! I could literally go on and on and on. He left such a positive impression on me.
My final thought is this-I'm sure he sounded his alert on his way to heaven, just as did down LeClair St on his way home from work.
Peace.

I always remember Uncle Chuck as being the funniest person that I knew as a kid. Whenever we visited I would follow him around everywhere because he always made me laugh. Good lord, I must have annoyed the living daylights out of the man. Thanks for your wonderful sense of humor, Uncle Chuck, and sorry if I was a nuisance. My love to Aunt Gina and the rest of the family.

Dearest Aunt Gina,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all of my cousins and their families as we celebrate his life and remember Uncle Chuck, his wonderful sense of humor and his tremendous love of family. I remember he had a silly nick name for all of us as kids. He was an amazing brother to his little sister Tess and we will always remember him that way. All of our love,
Ann (Scheck), Jack and Tess Bernard

Dear Gina, Jennifer & the rest of the Bernat family: I was so saddened to hear of Chuck's passing on from my Mom. I'm sure that he is right now advising God of how to get rid of that pesky squeek in the Pearly Gates! He was a dear friend to my family for so many years --- I know that my Mom & Dad will miss him dearly. Gina -- remember that the Gradys are still your neighbors and we will always be there for you. Love & Peace, Eileen

My fondest memories of Uncle Chuck were our family visits to his house in Davenport. Both the Scheck and Bernat families were almost equally matched in size and ages. They were wonderful holidays for us and a true respite for our parents. I especially remember the wonderful train set Uncle Chuck built for his boys in the attic of their home. It was an endless source of entertainment on our visits. I remember him as the original McGuyver, as evident by his ability to build anything from a chunk of wood – unlike his clumsy brother-in-law (my father) who was a true danger to himself and others whenever power tools were around. He has been a great older brother to my mother, especially after the untimely death of her husband over 30 years ago. Our families lost touch after we left the Quad-cities in the late 1970s, but he was always a constant source of support and family information for my mother and family over the years. My deepest condolences to Aunt Gina and my cousins.

Gina and Family,
I am so sad to hear of your great loss, he was a really great guy, and he will be missed by many. My family has passed but they would want to be remembered by the family as for many years they were friends and I have many fond memories of the two of you as well.
I will not forget the card he made for me with the money glued to the card - made it very special to me..I still have that card. I have really enjoyed knowing you both through the years. My condolences to you Gina and the whole family. You will be in my prayers.

I am the youngest son of Chuck's sister, Therese Bernat Scheck. Uncle Chuck will be greatly missed in our large extended clan. His love, faith, and great sense of humor touched us all our entire lives. Every memory I have of my uncle brings me a smile. I think he'd want it that way.

Mr. Bernat will be deeply missed, a man's man, a good and giving heart. People don't care how much you know, until you share how much you care. As an employee of the Friendly House there was nothing Mr. Bernat wouldn't do for the kids, and I will never forget it. May GOD bless the family.
