Charles Bigby Obituary

Charles E. Bigby, 67, of Glen Allen, died January 29, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father, Matthew Bigby and four brothers, Odell Bigby, Mackie Bigby, Ralph Bigby and Donnie Bigby. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 44 years, Carolyn Diggs Bigby; daughter, Kristina D. Bigby; son, Charles M. Bigby; devoted grandson, Matthew P. Bigby; two granddaughters, Decir and Destiny Bevan; mother, Henrietta Jones Bigby; eleven siblings, Willie J. Bigby (Mattie), Theo Bigby (JoAnn), Rosa B. Johnson (Wilbert), Calvin Bigby (Helen), Birdie Clinkscales (Franklin), Mary Johnson (Jessie), David Bigby, Robert Bigby (Debbie), Theresa Bigby, Michael Bigby (Vannette) and Patricia Ward (Neal); two aunts, Eva Mae Aikins and Ethel Jones; sister-in-law, LaRue Bigby; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Charles attended St. Paul's College on a football scholarship and met the love of his life, Carolyn Diggs, whom he married in 1974. They settled in Richmond where he started his career at DuPont, holding numerous managerial positions, including the start-up of the Kevlar Plant, Operations and Environmental Manager. Charles worked diligently on DuPont's Waste Reduction Initiative for which he was awarded the 2011 Governor's Environmental Excellence Award. He was also very active in the community, coaching Chamberlayne Little League football and baseball. Charles was known for baking the best sweet potato pies. He was also an avid golfer, loved watching Westerns and attending University of Virginia football games. Remains rest at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday, February 5 at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 8775 Mount Olive Avenue, Glen Allen. Rev. Darryl G. Thompson officiating. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.
