Dr. Charles Joseph Bove Jr., 86, of Annapolis and Summerfield, Fla., died Sept. 5 at the Mandrin Hospice House in Harwood after a brief illness. Dr. Bove was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Orange, N.J., to the late Charles and Mary C. Bove. He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1939 and the University of Maryland in 1946. He was a doctor of dental surgery, and ran a private practice in Annapolis from 1946 to 1988. Dr. Bove served as a private in the Army during World War II, and as a captain in the Air Force in the Korean war, from 1951 to 1954. He was a past president of the county Dental Society and a life-member of the Maryland State and American Dental Associations and the Xi Psi Phi Dental Honor Society. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 622, founded the Elks Lodge 2309 in Bowie, and was president of the Elks Lodge 2309 Building Corp. He was also a member of St. Mary's Church and Sacred Heart Church in Bowie, and a former member of the Sons of Italy, He enjoyed woodworking, gourmet cooking, opera, fishing and traveling. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles L. Bove. Survivors include his wife of over 40 years, Barbara A. Bove; three sons, Stephen N. Bove of Crownsville, Thomas E. Bove of Leesburg, Va., and Anthony D. Bove of Grass Lake, Mich.; three daughters, Charlene L. Eyster of Annapolis, Mary Jo Stover of Edgewater and Gail E. Fritsch of Crofton; one sister, Josephine L. Bembe of Annapolis; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Family and friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. tomorrow at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
