I'm sure my thoughts/comments will be repetitious, but there wasn't another staff person in my time as a student at KUMC (and subsequently in private practice at St. Mary's and Trinity) that I admired more, loved to be around, and laughed with than your dad/ grandfather/husband. A great physician, a great teacher...a great guy.

Mignon, I just saw this in the paper. Many fond memories of the years that you all lived up the street from us in Mission Hills. I also remember the excitement when Charles gave you a microwave oven-the first one I had ever seen.
May you be comforted and supported in your grieving.

Dr Clough is often a topic of conversation in our clinic. John just brought in his black "doctor" bag the other day and we were reminiscing about him. Inside there was a stethoscope, safety pin, bandage and a penny. Maybe the penny was for good luck. We are so fortunate to enjoy continued memories thru John as we meander thru neurosurgery life. We sure miss Charlie. He was one of a kind, however his compassion and commitment to human life lives on thru John and for that we are grateful.

Always brings a smile to my face when I remember Charlie Clough. A great role model, not only to his children, but to the large number of med students and fellow physicians whom he influenced, and who have th e privilege of learning from and working with him.

Probably said this all before, but Charlie was my favorite staff person during my medical training at KU Med School, and I was delighted and privileged to be associated with him at Trinity and St. Joseph's hospital when I was on the staff at both locations after finishing my residency and fellowship training at KUMC. He was brilliant, but also very funny with a great sense of humor, wonderful, caring bedside manner, and infectious personality.
I very much enjoyed being around him, felt fortunate to be able to use him as a consultant for my patients, and was very saddened that he left us way too early.

Dr. John Clough, Mrs. Charles Clough & family:
Dr. Charles Clough operated on my mother in the 1980s when she was in her mid eighties. Dr. Clough was an exceptional surgeon who relieved my mother's pain and helped her quality of life for many years thereafter. She (and I) came to consider him a friend - always picturing him with his little black bag in hand. Quite a few years back, we sent him a carved sculpture of a doctor with a black bag that so reminded us of him - he could have posed for it. After he retired, my mother saw his son, Dr. John, for a few follow-up appointments. We could tell that his son would no doubt step in with his exceptional skills and bedside manner.
Your father/husband touched many lives. Praying that special moments with those he touched along with the special memories and moments you shared will help you through the time ahead.

John, Mignon, Charlotte, Carter, Jennifer, Thomas and family-
I've been thinking of "Doc" and all of you these past 10 days since I learned of his passing. I'm so sorry I wasn't able to make the service.
I'll miss his birthday emails to me and my boys. We printed them out to keep. He was a very thoughtful man and I think so highly of him and you all. We'll miss having him at the farm!
Love,
Mignon and the rest of the Lambley family

I held him in highest esteem throughout 25+ years as an SJH staff colleague. My wife, an SJH nurse on 5S neurosurg. floor in 80's and 90's, recalls that he was universally beloved by the nursing and support staff as well. We always talked birding; wish I'd gotten him out for some field trips. He will be long remembered.
Respectfully,

My thoughts and prayers to the Clough family. I knew Dr. Clough when I worked at St. Luke's many years ago. I recall learning from him in surgery and he always had a smile on his face. It was also nice to see father and son working side by side. He will be missed!!!!

What a wonderful example to the medical profession. As CEO of St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City , it was an honor and a priviledge to have Dr. Charles Clough on the medical staff. He will be a great loss to the Kansas City Community.

Dear John and Cough family,
I was shocked and saddened to just learn of your dad's passing. It is dangerous to have hero's in life because they can disappoint...but your dad was one of my hero's...and he never disappointed me. I was privileged to have him as a teacher at KU and later privileged to have him as a colleague and friend at St. Joseph's hospital. His sense of humor and outlook on life mirrored mine, and I loved to be around him. He loved his patients, and loved caring for them. I feel fortunate to been able to refer my patients to his care. Yard Bird, you have big shoes to fill!
I was able to visit him during his recent hospitalization and his humor and wit were still present, and he greeted with his huge, familiar grin. We were able to reminisce about old times, and I'm so glad I got to see him before he left us. I regret I missed his services.
Everyone who knew him will miss him greatly, and I know none so much as his family members. He truly made the world a better place for all who knew him. Heaven will be a more humorous place with his arrival.

My deepest sympathy to Mignon and the family. I was one of Charlie's neurosurgery patients, and felt as if I had found a friend as well as a fabulous surgeon. He was easily one of the most intelligent persons I ever met, interested and knowledgeable about so many things. Al Basinger, Bartlesville,OK

I worked for Dr Cough at the Broadway office. We loved his cooking and great smile and laugh.
December 28, 2013
I can still hear his voice when he called the office...."Hey kid, is John Arthur around?" He left a legacy that will be unmatched. I have never heard anyone speak an unkind word when Charlie Clough's name is mentioned. A man of integrity and character who cared for all of his patients selflessly. He truely cared for all his patients and employees. We loved him and will miss him. God welcomed him home saying, "Well done my good and faithful servant."

Dear Mignon,
Stephen Fisher and I loved coming to Sunday School ....and you and Charlie were two of the reasons. Both of you were so gracious, non judgmental, loving and fun! Stephen passed several years ago...so I am sure he has welcomed Charlie singing a song.
Love you and my prayers for strength and peace are with you,

My condolences to the Clough family. I will always remember DR.Charlie Clough
I knew him since 1979 at Bethany Medical Center. I, can still remember him walking on the unit and say "hi gang" and set his black leather medical bag on my desk. He was the best neurosurgeon around. He will be greatly missed. I, have the opportunity to work with his son John who by the Grace of God inherited his hands and knowledge and if you close your eyes he sounds just like his dad.
God be with all of you

Prayers to the family of Dr Charles Clough. Dr. Clough holds a special place in my heart as he does in so many others. Dr.Clough saved the lives of so many people one of which was my mother Lois Beechner. After 2 successful brain tumor surgeries he gave my mother several more years on this earth. She is now in the heavens above and am SURE she will be there with open arms to welcome this wonderful man into the kingdom of heaven. God bless you all.
