Charles R. Gibson, M.D.Charles R, Gibson, MD, of Tulsa, passed away Saturday, November 8, 2008.Charles R. Gibson was born April 29, 1929 in Ponca City, OK to the late Robert B. and Sara Helen (Wingo) Gibson.He was a graduate of Ponca City High School, attended Vanderbilt University and Central State University and graduated from OU School of Medicine in 1955. While at OU he met and married Barbara Hannah. He served in the US Army as a Surgeon 1957-59. Interned at John Gaston Hospital, Memphis, TN and served as a surgical resident for 1 year in Vicksburg, MS. He completed his surgical residency at Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Cleveland, OH from 1959-63. After practicing surgery in Ponca City for 2 years. He joined Southern Plains Medical Clinic in Chickasha were he served on their board and then as President for 12 years. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the Grady Co. Medical Society, the Oklahoma State Medical Association and the Oklahoma Surgical Association. He was active in the Chickasha Epworth United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Administrative Board Chairman, and Finance Committee Chairman. In 2003 he moved to Tulsa to be near grandchildren, Joshua and Matthew. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Tulsa and the Joynor Class serving as President for 1 year. His life's priorities were dedicated first by love for God and family and secondly by his passion for caring for his patients.Surviving are his wife, Barbara and three children: Son, Chuck Gibson and his wife, Barbara, grandsons, Joshua and Matthew of Tulsa; Daughters, Libby Linam and husband. Harry of Marlow, OK and Gigi Batchelder and husband, Nedof Montana.A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2008 in the Sanctuary of Tulsa's First United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.The family requests that memorials be sent to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church, 1115 South Boulder, Tulsa, OK, 74119.
