CHARLES GREEN Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 29, 2012.
GREEN CHARLES C., II
Charlie was born on August 17, 1951 and died on January 9, 2012, following a short illness. He was the oldest son of Maj. (Ret.) Charles E. Green and Mary Jane (Verardi) Green. Born at Ft. Campbell, KY, an "Army Brat", his parents returned to their home of Pittsburgh after his father's retirement in 1963. Charlie was a 1970 graduate of Shaler High School, attended Robert Morris College and joined the Army. In 1984 he graduated from the Commonwealth University of Virginia with a BS in Nursing and moved to his home of Asheville, NC. He was a nurse at Mission Hospital for the past 25 years. Charlie was best known as the "Turtle Man", as his hobby of herpetology was his passion and he traveled the world to experience nature in its original habitat. His family and many friends mourn their loss of Charlie, a caring and generous man. His parents predeceased him. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Turnbull; daughters, Meghann Turnbull (Justin) and Kauleen Turnbull of Asheville, Brandy Turnbull (Leah) of Oregon, Raven Harrington (Joshua) of Florida; the family he always wanted. He is lovingly remembered by his sisters, Mary Green Hafenbrack (Jeff) of Ohio, Lisanne Green Gross (Joseph) of Texas and brother, David Green (Cindy Ketchmark) of Allison Park. Charlie was blessed with five nephews, a niece and a grandson. His good friend, Reid Taylor has great memories of their adventures. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held in Asheville in the spring. Donations in his memory may be made to the Western North Carolina Nature Center, P.O. Box 19151, Asheville, NC 28815.

I still cannot believe Charlie is gone. He was such a funny, lively guy, and full of kindness. We should all have just 10% of the positive impact on the world that he did. Rest in peace, my friend!

Dear Charlie,

I know we hadn't spoken for a long time. I rented a room from you while I was a student at VCU in Richmond. You were very kind to me and I really enjoyed living with you. I remember visiting with you one time in Asheville before you remarried. I remember you loved photography like me. I'm sorry your gone. I know a lot of people will really miss you. I hope you had a nice life. I offer my sympathies to your family.

Ironically enough, you died on my wedding anniversary.

Warmest Regards,

Ken Broderick
