Its hard to believe that one of my life long buddies Charlie (Big Hoss) has passed. His passing took me by complete surprise.
I first met Charlie when I attended St. Dominic School. We were in kindergarten class initially and several other grades until his family moved from Lakeview to Metairie. We lost contact until we were 20 years old where we reunited via mutual friends. From there we would go on weekend trips to the Biloxi and Florida beaches. We had so many fun memories that there are too many to mention. Charlie was one of my groomsmen when I got married in 1985. From that time to the present we would stay in touch, running into him at local functions and events. Those Saints games were especially fun along with Mark. Over the years I could always count on him whenever I had air conditioning issues.
He would call me as well to come by and fix his computer whenever he had "virus overload." Charlie had many close friends that were there for him in good times and in times of need. We were both grateful that he spent the last two years at my home on the Mississippi coast for Cruising the Coast weekend. He would bring his buggy and we would cruise the event venues. I will never forget what he told me after a morning of sleeping late. He said, "I feel like I am on vacation."
Up until the day before he passed we would communicate almost daily through joke texts or current events.
I know that death is part of life but I will forever be blessed to have Charlie (Big Hoss) as a friend.

My family moved from Mid-City to Metairie in the summer of 1975 and my journey with Charlie started shortly after. We both enrolled in a religion class at St. Benilde to prepare us for our confirmation and our friendship began there. We went to East Jefferson for high school and rode the bus together until Charlie got his driver´s license. He then would pick me up in his 1972 Ford Maverick. His family had a camper at Lazy J Campground in Bush, and I have so many great memories of that time in our lives. Charlie´s parents were always good to me. I had a special connection with his mom who was a jokester and I was grateful my son was born before she passed and got to meet him. Charlie and I drifted apart for various reasons but 5 years ago we reconnected and it was great for both of us. We would spend time together at the lake with our dogs and it did us both good. We basically became soccer moms for dogs. We both enjoyed how happy our dogs were when we went to the lake or the beach. When we got together, we were not trying to solve the world´s problems. We would just laugh about our journey together and mess with each other. Charlie was in a good place and often used the words grateful and thankful which always blew me away. He was at peace in his head and it made me feel good that us reuniting had a part in that. It´s very difficult for me to accept his passing but I´m grateful that we were best friends and I will continue to be grateful for our journey.

I met Charlie through my brother Clay (who also went to meet the Lord 2 years ago March 30th) many years ago, he was always a happy go lucky guy and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. I never knew he was the animal lover he was til I saw pictures and videos of him and his beloved dogs Grace and Lizzie who are truly missing him just as much if not more as his family and friends. May you rest in peace and have a good ole time with Clay and all your loved ones in that big beautiful mansion in the sky. Love Libby
