Charles Haver Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 31, 2026.
Palm Desert - Charles J. Haver, 102, of Palm Desert, died on January 15, 2026. Charles (Chuck) was born on April 21, 1923 in Pasadena, California to Elmer J. and Bernadine Haver.

Chuck met Mary Louise Lawder in 1940 in Pasadena and they married on June 25, 1943 at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. After Chuck returned from World War II duty, they lived in the San Francisco Bay area where he attended UC Berkeley, their two sons were born, and he began his civil engineering career. In 1954, the family moved back to Pasadena to be closer to their extended family, and their daughter was born. Chuck and Mary were involved in Boy Scouts, Little League, Camp Fire Girls and PTA, enjoyed many friendships, and were members of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

After leaving Pasadena in 1975, Chuck started Charles Haver and Associates civil engineering firm in Palm Desert, with Mary as his office manager. They were also very involved at Palm Desert Community Church. After retiring in 1988, Chuck and Mary visited many countries and enjoyed seeing every state and Canadian province from their motor home. In 2005, they moved to The Carlotta Retirement Community in Palm Desert, where they made many friends. After Mary died in 2010, Chuck still enjoyed the company of his friends and family, watching Dodger games, playing bridge and working jigsaw puzzles.

Chuck is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, George and Marcia Haver in Davis, California; son and daughter-in-law Ed and Ginny Haver in Atlanta, Georgia; daughter Nancy Haver in Seattle, Washington; granddaughters Rebecca Bell (John) in Georgia; Andrea Bowen (Scott) in Nebraska and Sarah Terwey (Mark) in South Africa; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Loretta Burke of Avondale, Arizona and nine nieces and nephews.
