Charles Hayden Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 30, 2025.
Charles Edward Hayden was called into heaven at age 83, surrounded by his loving family, on September 26, 2025. He was born on January 28, 1942, in El Paso, TX to Charles Raymond Hayden and Thelma Lorraine (Nowell) Hayden. Charles grew up in Corsicana, TX and after graduating from Corsicana High School in 1960, he studied at Navarro Junior College and then went on to graduate with a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Texas in Austin. It was there that he met the love of his life, Darlynne (Leonard) Hayden of Mont Belvieu, TX. After their marriage in 1965, they made their loving home in Oak Cliff and later in Duncanville, Texas and Frisco, Texas.

Charles would later earn a master's degree in education from the University of North Texas and become a lifelong educator, filled with passion for teaching and guiding young people. He taught Government, Economics, and History at various Dallas ISD Schools including H. Grady Spruce High School and later at Duncanville High School until his retirement from teaching in 2001. He also coached numerous sports, most notably soccer, and he would become to be known by all of his students as simply "Coach Hayden". He was on the Duncanville High School coaching staff in 1990 when the soccer team won the UIL Texas Girls Soccer State Championship.

He will be remembered by all who knew him including thousands of students and players for his passion for teaching, his caring personality, and his love for others, especially young people. He enjoyed watching and supporting University of Texas Football and the Texas Rangers. He also loved cooking and spending time with his family.

Charles is survived by his wife, Darlynne Hayden; two children: Chris Hayden & wife Chris Eury Hayden of Prosper, Ashley Gordon & husband Aaron Gordon of Frisco, and four grandchildren: Connor Hayden, Cara Hayden, Addison Gordon, and Avery Gordon.
