He was born to Charles Jaeger, Sr. and Ella Mae Gautreaux in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, mother, his sister Mary Lynn, and his son-in-law Falealii. He was survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his children Charlene (Nathan), Elizabeth "Lisa Jr." (Jeremy), Lala (Darrell), Jennifer (Jon), Charles III, Dawn, Darcel, Denise; 26 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren (another coming soon); his siblings, Michael, Allen, Andrew, Jules, Terry, Donna, and JoAnn; and countless loved ones. Charles regularly shared he was a father of eight, never distinguishing between natural or step-children. He had an endless catalog of stories kept in regular rotation of all his children and grandchildren. His greatest source of pride was the happiness and success of all his 'babies'.
Charlie, as he was known to most, lived a life of endless stories. More than anything, he was a big fish in any pond he landed in. From growing up in New Orleans to partying in Fat City, working in his father's restaurant to training horses with his step-father, Jules, from his military travels and 22 proud years of decorated service in the US Navy, to his joy of training thoroughbreds, to sweeping chimneys, and everything in between; he lived a big and full life. Charlie knew no boundaries that were clearly defined, he tested them all. He loved to argue and debate and would do so with nearly anyone. When he loved, he loved deeply. No matter the circumstances, he loved his family. He didn't always show it conventionally, in fact most often he showed his love best by proudly telling family, friends, strangers, or anyone who would listen, the stories of his life and all the people in it he loved so much. Those stories and memories of him will be cherished in his absence.
Funeral service will take place at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California, Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM.

We were high school friends, that helped each other in school projects, friends of my neighborhood gathered at night on the porch, laughing, joking and stories...we walked from our neighborhood to the lakefront to watch fireworks, about 10-15 miles...fun times and then we connected by phone with great memories, songs, and fights...2. strong minded friends. thank you Charlie, he helped me pass Civics. hahahejhheheeh
<3. <3. <3 and many other health issues, venting and fun stories, which he had many, many, many...taught me to think and to look up stuff...going to miss him and all the stories. <3. so funny, the last time I saw him was in high school 1963-64, picked up talking like it was yesterday. thanks for all the help talking, prayers, thoughts and love to you and your beautiful family. <3
