Charles Jones Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 17 to Jan. 18, 2023.
Charles (Chuck) Jones, 71, of Pittsburgh, was ushered into the presence of the King on January 13, 2023, with his loving family by his side.

Born July 15,1951, Charles was the son of the late Ernest & Ethel (Moss) Jones. He was a 1970 graduate of Plum High School.

Many characteristics make up the lives of great people, but those derived from the heart are the qualities that leave a forever imprint on others. Charles was such a man. Generous beyond measure, there wasn't anything that he wouldn't do for family or friends. It's often been said that he never met a stranger. His circle of friends included individuals from every walk of life.

Charles was blessed with a life rich in family and friends. He was a kind and loving man who never demanded the spotlight. He had a quiet confidence rooted in a positive outlook and unwavering faith.

Charles met the love of his life, Madeline, when they were 17 years old. They married on December 12, 1970. To that union, a son (Michael) and daughter (Terra) were born. Charles & Madeline recently celebrated 51 years of marriage.

Charles loved being a husband, father & grandfather. Serving and providing for his family gave him tremendous joy. A favorite saying to his children was "So you think money grows on trees."

He sharpened his babysitting skills caring for his grandsons - a responsibility that gave him a whole new zest for life.

Charles was employed by Highmark for 30 years and Comcast for nearly 20 years. After retiring in 2016, he became the catering manager for Bistro To Go.

Giving back to the community was a mainstay of Charles' life. He was a Neighborhood Community Council volunteer and Democratic Committee Person for Allegheny County for many years.

Charles was an avid bowler and participated in a bowling league for more than 35 years. He was especially fond of watching his soap operas and preferred to watch them without being interrupted by phone calls.

Charles possessed a green thumb and had a beautiful backyard garden to prove it. Affectionately known as the grill master, he enjoyed grilling the perfect steak and ribs. Family gatherings for holidays and special occasions were centered around delicious meals lovingly prepared by Charles & Madeline.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Madeline; devoted children, Michael (Hope Spivey), and Terra (Cecil) Hall; loving grandsons, who were the apples of his eye, Ronnie, Christopher, and Jordan. Also survived by brothers, Joe Marshall, Ernie, Howard (Joanne), Calvin (Kathy), and Anthony (Debra); former sister-in-law, Towanda Marshall; cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by brothers Kenny (2005) and Oliver Martin (2014).

Even though we face a future without Charles' steadfast presence, we find comfort in our many treasured memories. He showed us how to live a wholehearted, generous life filled with love & laughter. He also taught us how to face adversity without complaint and embrace every moment with gratitude.

A special thank you to the entire Allegheny General Hospital Oncology Department for the excellent and compassionate care they provided for Charles.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Allegheny Center Alliance Church, 250 East Ohio Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.

Visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Allegheny General Hospital Oncology Care Fund.

My thoughts are with the family. I just was told of Chuck's passing. He was always such a calm and insightful man. I worked with Chuck at Comcast. I could always count on his smile and his support. He will be missed on this earth.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Chuck truly was one of kind. I met Chuck through my sister Donna, who worked with him at Comcast.
