On behalf of the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall and the many patrons it serves, we are deeply beholden to Mr. Kaufman for his very generous and unexpected bequest to the "Carnegie Carnegie." This library, performance venue and rare Civil War room is a magical place. Mr. Kaufman's gift helps us carry on with the restoration of this beautiful historic landmark facility. Mr. Kaufman has touched our hearts.

We were just notified of Mr. Kaufman's passing and that he had made a generous bequest to Jewish Family and Children's Service of Pittsburgh. On behalf of the 8,000 people we serve: elderly, unemployed, hungry, disabled, orphaned and refugees - I would like to express our deep appreciation to Mr. Kaufman's family. Though I did not know him, reading about his background is quite inspiring.

I was a caregiver for Mr. Kaufman and he was a wonderful, intelligent and generous man. I enjoyed the time I had taking care of him. He will be missed. My condolences to his remaining family.

To the remaining family of Charles E. Kaufman: Mr. Kaufman was an intelligent, generous and insightful man. His example of giving back to the scientific community is one that I wish to follow. What better way of supporting the goals that one has during life than to institute a monetary award of $50,000 for those scientists who can still make a difference to the betterment of humanity through science? I applaud his efforts and I applaud the Pittsburgh Foundation for keeping his gift alive. What a wonderful man.
