Charlie was a wonderful friend and colleague. He was kind, loving, caring, compassionate and loyal to his patients and friends. His patients will never have a better physician. I love him like a brother. I hope to see him in heaven. Harry

Once after completing a raft ride from Glen Canyon Dam to Lee´s Ferry I was treated to the sight of men fly flashing in the river, and I was able to visualize Charlie fishing there as he mentioned it often to me. Fifteen years after his passing I am now 80, and can be forever thankfully for Charlie´s skills to have saved my life. Words are not sufficient to express my thanks to him.
We both celebrated our roots in Milwaukee in latter years by my providing an authentic Sauerbraten mit spaetzle and red cabbage lunch for his office. Memories that will never be forgotten. Sadly he was taken from us way too soon.

We will miss this wonderful doctor and exceptional man so very much. He always had time for whatever was going on in our lives and, when asked when he would retire, his answer was always the same: "I can't quit yet because I haven't made my first million"! We all know that it was never about the money--it was always about helping his patients.

We send you our most sincere sympathy and our thanks for sharing Doc with us for the last 20 years.

If we as Dr. Kienzle's patients are feeling such a great loss, it's hard to imagine how his grieving family and friends will get through such a sad time. But your faith will make you strong and will comfort you. Dr. Kienzle was a physician from another time, so caring and dedicated, even when he himself was enduring "procedures" for his own health issues. Those who knew him will never forget him; those who didn't will never believe a doctor like he was ever existed in this day and age! We continue to pray for the repose of his soul and for you, his family, who must keep going without him.

Corinthians Chapter 13 verse 4 reminds me of Charlie. "Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant...." Charlie was a warm and loving man and will be missed by so many. A good friend for many years. I will certainly miss his "bear hugs". Cathy, you are in my prayers.

We have lost our revered family Doctor, Charles J. Kienzle, who died recently. He had been our doctor since we moved to Scottsdale in 1990. He was "Doc" to me and I was "Professor" to him; how he decided on that nickname is beyond me. He was a devout fly fisherman, tying his own flies to be used in waters all over the country. One time while he was sewing me up after some minor surgery, I asked him if he was using a fisherman's knot; he cracked up and had to take a minute to regain his composure.
I've decided to re-dedicate my poem "Deer River Revisited" to him.

Deer River Revisited

It wasn’t easy getting there;
Over fallen trees,
Frog-hopping rock to rock.
The many pockets of his vest
Held his gear.
He had to thread the rod
Through the bushes,
Taking care not to snag his leader.
He knew -
Somehow he just knew -
Where the best places were.
(We wonder still how he knew.)
The line always went to the right spot.
Was there a tell-tale flash of silver
That exposed the prey
Just before his cast?
We knew the concluding act
Long before the trout conceded the battle.
One more to the creel,
And one more,
And one again.
We envied his skill
As we shared the pan-fried trophies
By the campfire.

He’s gone now.

We’re left with the wonder
And the distant taste-sense
And the memory of the pleasure
Of his company.

Dedicated to Dr. Charles J. Kienzle,
may his creel always be full.

In 1981 my family and I moved here from Madison, WI, and we began a search for a family doctor. I knew then it had to be someone from Wisconsin, and that such a person would have rapport with all of us. Charlie's name came up many times when I asked my fellow workers for a name. It did not take but one visit to learn they were all correct in recommending him.

He was a kind and gentle doctor, a gentleman, and a good friend. On several occasions he literally saved my life with his diagnostic skills. He cared for my family like it was his own. And most of all I marveled at his tireless performance in his profession. He seemed to literally be my wake up call in when I was hospitalized, which won my undying admiration for his fortitude.

When I left for Wisconsin last Spring, we talked about what I might do if he ever left practice. Little did I know when I returned in October he would not be able to practice again.

Today at his memorial service, I finally began to get some closure on his loss to us all. I am sorry that I did not get to enjoy anymore German food with him as we had often done in the past.

Good bye my friend,

Dr. Kienzle was our family doctor for 34 years. Growing up, our children preferred him to our pediatrician. My mother used to say if you can count all your good friends on one hand when you are grown up you will be lucky. He was one of three and I miss him terribly.

He was a modern Marcus Welby who never made you feel your concerns were not important. He was kind, gentle, loving, caring, and generous. He loved his dogs and always talked about their walks. If we could live our lives as he did we would be ensured a place in heaven.

I know his family was proud of him and loved him far more than we possibly could as patients. He saw our family through injuries, graduations, marriages of our children, births of their children, happy times and sad times. He probably knew more about most families than their own family members did.

Mrs. Kienzle, please know that we are eternally grateful for the 34 years we saw him. We thank you for sharing with our family and many others, probably for more years than you would have liked.

He would always ask if he could touch my hair. It had started turning white like his and we would laugh. He had a very special way of making each of us feel loved and special.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your children.

Barry, Sue, Cody (Deanna), Kyle (Erin), and Candace (Scott).

We were both so very sad to hear of Dr. Kienzle's passing...our loss is certainly Heaven's gain! We always thought that we were his only patient as Dr. K. would never rush. He was a very unique, kind and so very caring "gentle-man". Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and dedicated staff.

One never thinks that a man with the strength and character of a Doctor Charles Kinzle would ever leave this earth. At various times he treated me, my sister and her family, and my Father. He made each visit personal asking about family who had moved away and commenting on news of the day. He would go so far as to notice my wrist watch and say how glad he was to see that I didn't spend a fortune on a time piece. I looked down and he had one just like it. I know his generosity with the people who worked in the office was huge. I know the family and friends who loved and admired him have a big hole in their heart. He was a great Doctor and he was a really good man. I am sorry for his departure from our world but his smile and warmth and how he touched our lives will be with us for a long time. If there is an afterlife I know he's already found a new great place to go fishing and talk to new friends.

I have fond memories of Dr. Kienzle making his morning rounds at SHC-Osborn he would come onto the floor and acknowledge the nurses"s with kind words. He took the time to listen to his patients and the nurses. May the Lord bless your family and give you comfort at this difficult time.

Ed and I were saddened to learn of doctor’s passing. He was a wonderfully unique doctor who made you feel at ease and listened to what you had to say. He never made you feel rushed and yes he was one of a kind, he even met Ed and me at his office on a Saturday when I was very ill. He will be greatly missed by us and the many patients he cared for. We will keep him and you his family in our prayers.

Back in 1977 Dr Kienzle became our GP when we relocated from the UK.
My son was three and Dr Kienzle would actually make house calls. In 1981 he saved my life by prompt action when I was having some wisdom teeth removed (long story).
He was was a fantastic doctor and friend, my thoughts are with you during this stressful time.
Very best regards,
Mike

I am so very sorry for your loss. What a truly wonderful man Dr. Kienzle was. Dr. Kienzle has been our family Dr. since I was born. I have the fondest memories of him growing up. He always had the special drawer with 'dum dum' suckers. I recently saw him this past summer and he still gave me a sucker - even as a 30 year mom! He always made us laugh and had the kindest gentlest spirit. May he rest in peace and may the Lord guide you through this difficult time.

Sorry for you loss. Nice picture as well. I printed out a copy for my father. He was interested in seeing the obituary. I have nothing but kind memories of Chuck when I was a child. I know my family is very grateful for all he did for them. And I know they have always had the most utmost respect for him.
