Age 71, of Pittsburgh, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Beloved husband of 50 years to his high school sweetheart, Christine (Casey) Lewis; devoted father of Amy (Bill) Kelly, Casey (Eric) Stewart, and Chuck (Gretchen) Lewis; adored “Poppy” of Gabrielle, Taylor, Charles, Cullen, Shane, and Santino; son of the late Charles and Mary (Doyle) Lewis; and loving brother of Mary Kay (the late Ed) Sullivan, David (Debra) Lewis, and James Lewis.
Known as “Charlie” to his brother firefighters, he proudly served on the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire from 1975 to 2005 earning the rank of Captain. He served as an Instructor at the Training Academy for many years before retiring at Engine 29. In retirement, he continued instructing local fire departments through Allegheny County Fire Department and CCAC.
He loved being a firefighter, but his favorite times were spent with his kids, grandkids, and family at the beach, sporting events, Steeler Sunday parties, and working in his yard.
All are welcome Thursday, October 19, 2023 from 2-8 PM, WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Rd., Scott Twp., 412-563-2800. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, October 20, 2023, 10 AM, SS. Simon and Jude Church, St. Raphael the Archangel Parish, 1607 Greentree Rd. Entombment to follow in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, 1016 W Jackson Blvd #1073, Chicago, Illinois 60607.
