Charlie, We lost touch pretty much after leaving school and for that I will always be sorry. Had meant to get in touch to organise reunion with Johnnie and Mongo at Cheltenham races but alas not to be. I have nothing but fond memories on looking back on our time at school you really were an exceptional guy.Thoughts and prayers go to Angus, Lisa and Fraser, with love

Over a year has passed since Charles died and still greatly missed, which prompted me to dig out some old photos of my 21st when Charlie would have been about 18. I hope you can see them. Top photo is with pals, my now brother in law on the left, Charlie and myself. Next chatting to the fairer sex! And last enjoying drink and a chat with friends.
This book will go off line on the 15th February unless anyone wishes to continue it on. I would like to purchase a copy of this Liza and Frazer but do not have their contact details. If anyone has please can you forward them to [email protected]

I only just learned of Charlie's loss at such a young age. I have not seen him since school but I remember a most unusual wit, an independent thinker and one who stood out from the crowd. There was a zaniness that was infectious and it is clear from reading others' recollections that that wonderful gift never left him and he never held it back from those around him. Best wishes to Liza and Fraser. Our loss is Heaven's gain.

I knew Charles and his brother Angus when we were all children and my mother Gwen Cuff worked for their father. Although young, Charles's inate sence of charm, style and fun shone through, and my brother and I have many happy memories of time spent with him and his brother. Forty three is far too young to die, and I am sure Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him; however, I rejoice in the knowledge that his son shall move forward, taking with him all his Dad's idiosyncrasies which will keep Charles 'alive' forever. My brother - Tim Cuff - and I send all our love and condolences to Charles's family.

My sympathies to Angus and Charles's family. I am saddened and remembering someone with an infectious sense of fun. Whether inflicting pain on his own team mates at Ashley Cricket Club or out for a night, Charles brought out smiles.

Charles and I were childhood best friends, most of my early memories centre around times spent together at school and Cavendish Road; playing in the attic with the massive train set, in the basement exploring or Halloween parties with Nancy feeding Angus and my brother Simon mashed potato dyed blue whilst they were blindfolded, then seeing their faces as they saw what they had just eaten when it was removed...great times.
It was superb to hear all the heartwarming eulogies from people who knew Charles in his later life, I'm so glad he continued to touch people's life as he did mine.
I have included a photo of me and "Charlie" in the nativity at St Vincents School..happy days.
Sleep well Charles...Myles. x

Knowing Charles for a short time from when he started racing I am very happy to have known him for the time I did. I’ll always have a favourite memory from this year of Charles after he met Simon Fish on the motorway to Croft and they both arrived racing each other, in to the circuit at full speed in a style that only Charles could have achieved, bringing the laughter as they stared at each other whilst circling one another, and cutting each other up! Recieving the standard talking to the next day! I considered Charles to be a pro-active and exciting person to be around, and as I grew to know him more appreciated what he said to me and the direction he provided me since I graduating from university. I’ll miss Charles but hope to follow the great example that he set.

Charles you will be missed. I first came across you a few years ago in Hong Kong in our usual hunting grounds; a golf course and a pub that played a Man U game on the TV. We only knew each other a few years but your spirit will live within me for many years. Hard to put a tear drop on paper. Life is short but memories of good times stay forever. See you in the next world.

I meet Charles the first week he arrived in Hong Kong. Both 29 at the time, we soon struck up a friendship around our passionate following of Man United. As his legal adviser, business partner but most importantly, loyal friend, we plotted, planned, argued and laughed our way through so many adventures all across the world. Charles always defended the British way and in many respects was quintessentially British; but Charles also came to quickly appreciate the Chinese way and the opportunities that the Far East could bring. We will all miss you; I will miss you mate. Your trusted friend, Michael Chin

From the very first day I met Charles, I felt & knew what a special person he was. And he never proved me wrong, never or ever.
A genuine gentleman, a limitless explorer, an invincible conqueror...he was so exceptional & so special.
He made such an impact on me that I can recall every instant and occasion I have had the opportunity to be with him, and I still cannot & do not want to believe what has happened.
I am proud to get to know him. He will be in my mind & heart forever.
May He rest in Peace

Charles, writing in the past tense does not seem right - you are an inspirational person, sharing your company either in business or socially was an extreme pleasure and always educational. A legacy to be proud of, albeit too soon. And yes, those shed keys really did open the Aston - damn British Leyland !!

I first met Charles 6 months after I started working for his company in 2000. He was in HK and I was stationed in the UK. After meeting him I just wanted the days not to end as being with him was great. He was a fantastic motivator, a good boss, and a friend. I could probably write about him for the next three months. I remember the minimum of 2 hour phone calls everyday, his amazing ideas (some a little out of this world), my first trip to Hong Kong, his phone calls at 1 am just to say hi, him telling me to keep bidding for his Aston Martin at Christies until we won the bid, the fact that he was always right, the good hotels and restaurants, his idea to import bus tyres, racing around in his quattro and his Aston, his plan to take on the world, his charm wherever we went, how much he loved Frazer and Liza. I wish I had seen more of him and cant believe I said bye bye to him today. I want to say a big thank you for all that Charles taught me. Charles you will never be forgotten and mate I will miss you a lot.

I first met Charlie about 1983 when he must have been about 17 and I about 20. I was not aware that there was a three year gap in our ages or maybe I had just forgotten or maybe it was because he always seemed older and to some extent wiser than his years. That is not to say that he didn't get out there and party like the rest of us in those manic days of the early 1980's in The Griffin and then over the road to Bakers. Some great parties and fantastic memories. Some of my fondest memoroies of Charlie were when both of us had hit a bit of a financially lean time and Charlie had been buying ladies fashion wear from various wholesalers in north Manchester, then travelling the country selling these items to budget retailers and pound shops. He pitched me on the deal to help him sell these fashion items and I mean RaRa skirts as one of the better items. With the yellow pages out we headed off to Stoke to sell our wares. And sell we did to some very interesting characters! We had such a laugh but it was he that had the charm, wit, drive and nowse to flog anything to anyone. Fortunately we met up a year or so a go and had a few great times reminiscing about the old days and what we were doing now. It didn't seem that much different from what he told me, just with a few more noughts. It has been a pleasure and a priveledge to know you Charlie and we shall send you off with more than a few beers, over the road today in The Griffin.

I was at most races my dad raced at, and last year we were in the same team as Charles. I thought he was a legend, a really nice bloke with time to talk to me or anyone. At Silverstone when he raced a Corvette in the car park will live with me forever. Glad I met you Charles, I can't beleive youre gone. Rest In Peace

The world feels a little smaller, without Charles being around. Charles was a great mate, a true friend, an enthusiastic colleague and a generous boss.
The time we spent flying around race tracks, was filled with laughter, ambition, and an unbelievable driving force to win, a constant fight to overcome any obstacle to achieve a win, a passion and drive to succeed. He gave his all in everything he did. His absolute all.
Embarking with him, in the electric car project in China, has also been a fantastic adventure. One I am exceptionally grateful to have had, and also it gave me the opportunity to work together with Charles, and this was always great fun, sometimes it was very difficult, sometimes easy, but one thing it was never boring nor uneventful.
Charles invigorated and enthused any space he entered. His enthusiasm was infectious, his presence dominated, and his generosity was absorbed by all around him. There was never any doubt when Charles was in the room, he filled the space. He was The Light that shone, The Flame that gave warmth to his friends and The Firework that exploded and made the world turn a little faster
Charles lived each day to the full, he packed more in than any of us, he was always positive. People like Charles never really leave us, they are too bright, and they’re energy is too strong. He carries on living inside ours heads now, and that’s ok. He will never completely go away.
Cheerio Mate, thanks for everything it was a blast!!

Well, what can one say, one of life’s characters, full on and at top speed at everything he did. Always up for the fight and rarely taking prisoners! We are extremely saddened that this battle you did not win, but we are absolutely positive, as always you gave it your all! You are and will always be sorely missed.

I only got to know Charles over past 2 years when we both started car racing. He was a larger than life character, very funny and very passionate about his racing. He will be sadly missed by all his racing mates. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
