Charles Lovell Obituary

DATAW ISLAND, SC — Charles "Chuck" Peter Lovell, 78, husband of Joyce Griffin Lovell, died Friday, July 11, 2008 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2008 at 11:00 am at Carteret Street United Methodist Church on Carteret Street in Beaufort, SC.

Mr. Lovell was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT. He attended RPI and the University of Bridgeport where he received his Engineering degree. After college Chuck served his country in the US Army at the end of the Korean War. He and his wife Joyce spent most of their life in the New England states, ME, NH and MA. They primarily raised their four children in Bedford, NH. In the early 80's they moved their home and business to Dartmouth, MA, so they could he nearer the coastal waters. They spent 18 years in Dartmouth where Joyce shared in running his business until they retired in 1999.

Chuck was an entrepreneur' at heart - he spent his professional life running his own businesses. The last 25 years were spent as a Manufacturers' Representative which involved designing machinery and systems for various companies all over New England. The combination of his Engineering training, natural sales ability and creative talents helped win the loyalty and respect of the companies he worked with.

But mostly Chuck was a devoted family man who was committed to sharing love and companionship with Joyce and the family they raised together. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year. As a father and grandfather, he passed on wisdom and character that will long survive him.

Surviving in addition to his wife of Dataw Island, SC; are one son, Peter Lovell of Glastonbury, CT; three daughters, Hilary L. Woo of Alameda, CA; Andrea L. Otero of Santa Fe, NM and Surrena Lovell of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935 or The Franciscan Center on St. Helena Island, SC 29920.
