I remember him as a man who always brought a smile with him. Math without intimidation! I wish he taught at UBC. My math learning stopped abruptly when I graduated from UHill.

To "Mr.MacLean's" Family :
I just wanted to tell you that Mr.Mac was my homeroom teacher at Van Tech from 1982 - 1986. He was a great teacher as well as a great friend. He saw many of us through our high school crisis', passing on some great advice ! He will be missed and spoken fondly of at our 20 year reunion next year. Thanks for all your kindness Mr. MacLean.

Apart from the fact that Mr. MacLean was a fine and gifted teacher who also got me through High School Math with his patience and skill, I have remembered him all through the years with a smile as a truly wonderful character. I have a vivid image of him thoughtfully contemplating our tittering, snickering classroom when the sounds of a high and beautiful operatic voice drifted in through the open door. He silenced us with one remark, and this is what he said. "If any one of you had a voice like that you wouldn't have to be sitting in this classroom right now!"

Sharon and Tracey....I just wanted to let you both know how very sorry I was to hear of Fair's passing. It was an honour to have met Fair, and know the man who was a great husband and a great father. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

It was my great good fortune to be in Mr. MacLean's math class. His was teaching as it should be: inspired, and inspiring. He was also the only teacher ever to give me 100 per cent in a math test. I am still not sure which one of us was the more surprised! Thank you Mr. MacLean.

I could never have passed Grade 12 math without his patient guidance. He was one of my favourite University Hill teachers.

Mr. MacLean tought me Math for 6 years at University Hill Secondary School from 1956 to 1961. He was the finest teacher I have had the priviledge of knowing! He also tutored me throughout my first year at UBC, arriving at the high school at 6AM in order to do so. That I have been a public acountant for over 40 years is a tribute to him for instilling in me a love of all things mathematical and problem solving! I am saddened to hear of his passing.
