Darling Mahoney Family,
I have so many wonderful memories growing up with you all. Ruth and Mont were so kind and loving with me. I loved playing at your home.We had the best neighborhood for night time play! I am thinking of all with love, Lou Bentsen

Mont lives and bore his testimony of Jesus Christ often in Church and his life. He strengthened us all by his unwavering faith. His love story with Ruth was also inspiring and I'm happy with the thought that they are reunited, having endured faithful to the end. I'm grateful to have known them both and their beautiful family.

I was one of Mont's scouts. Thinking back, I consider Mont to be the most influential man in my life outside of my family. It is because of this event. When I was a scout we were on a snowmobiling activity at the Mahoney cabin. Trying to show off I ended up crashing one of his snowmobiles into a cement post sticking out on the trail. I was dazed but not really hurt. The snowmobile had a big dent in the front. After we got home, we worked out a deal between my Dad and Mont and I that I would reimburse Mont for the repair of the snowmobile. As a 12 year old, it took me almost a year of mowing lawns and yard work to get enough money together a couple hundred dollars, maybe. When I had enough, my Dad and I went over to Mont's with a check. He thanked me for paying him back and then handed the check back to me and said he wanted me to start a mission fund with it. Needless to say, with a mission fund in place, I never had a thought that I wouldn't be going on a mission.

Mont was larger than life and always had a smile. He helped care for my mother-in-law when she was widowed at a young age. My wife has so many good memories of Mont. He lived well and large. What an inspiring man!

I am choked up hearing of Mont's passing. My cup of gratitude for just knowing of this man runneth over. If you knew Mont, you knew a real super hero. The gates of hell tremble because of men like him. His poem of being on a mountain top amongst grand clouds and feeling God's blessings, was so impressionable and inspiring to me. I can only imagine how many lives were elevated from Mont and Ruth's positive influence. He was always saying, "go make a positive change in the life of someone." Mont and Ruth built up people, and temples. Thank you Mont and Ruth. Thank you.

Mont was a giant of a man! He was tall in stature, but even taller in character. I had the blessing of working as an Assistant Scout Master to Mont. The memories are rich. From the compass course to find a live breakfast in the West Deseret to the pterodactyl wing dinner in the Wind River Mountains. Mont was a Master Teacher to boys. Each of his object lessons was a masterpiece. Anyone who was blessed to rub shoulders with Mont was richly rewarded. The world is a MUCH better place because Mont was here! The lives he touched can't be measured. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the celebration of his extraordinarily life, I'll be at a granddaughter's baptism, but my heart will be there. A HUGE THANKS to all of Mont's children, who generously shared their dad. With Much Love, Kay & Heidi Ashton
