Charles Matthews

Charles (Chuck) Hervey Matthews age 85 of Bonita Springs, FL and Novi, MI passed peacefully in the company of family on 2/28/25. A long time University of Michigan Wolverine fan, he never missed an opportunity to root for his beloved "Maize and Blue".

Spending most of his formative years in the Detroit area, he attended Royal Oak High School in Royal Oak, MI. Then he attended the University of Michigan where he earned his BBA and MBA; and was a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Chuck was a career employee of General Motors in the Human Resources group. In retirement, he enjoyed golf, croquet, and a good glass of wine shared with friends and family.

Chuck was born in Denver, CO, the only child of Anais Magi Matthews and Victor Paul Matthews who both preceded him in death. Chuck is survived and loved by his partner, Susan Brundage Ullrich, his son William Matthews (Kathleen); his daughter Kristin "Tris" Loughead (William); his step-daughter Lianna McSwain; his step-son Stephen McSwain; his first wife Julie A. (Pond) Matthews; and by his grandchildren Rylie Varinsky (Jake), John "Jack" Matthews, Clare Matthews, Risa Trauner, and Collin Trauner. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his second wife of 30 years, Yolanda M. Matthews.

A celebration of life will be hosted at Bonita Bay Club on March 22 from 12:00-2:00 for friends and family in the Florida area. And a memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17th from 12:00-1:00 at White Chapel Cemetery, 621 W. Long Lake Road, Troy, MI.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the University of Michigan Kresge Hearing Research Institute, or The Parkinson's Foundation of New York, NY.
