Charles and I entered college the same day in September 1952.We graduated in 1956.He was a respectable young man from the beginning of our entrance in college until our graduation.I saw him the last time in 2006 ,for our 50th. class reunion.
He was the same, then, as he was when we met in school. He never stopped teasing me about the time I was asking Joyce about how was he... where he was...while he was standing right there with her holding her hand.
Sooo many beautiful memories. Joyce, I know you don't remember me. That's fine. I will continue to lift you and your family in prayer.

A LIFETIME FRIENDSHIP

Who would know that two BABES would be born in the year 1934 in two far flung Arkansas counties, Pulaski & Howard, and meet years later in the Fall of 1952 on the campus of AM&N college in Pine Bluff. Yes, that is what happened and as fate would have it we became roommates and forged a friendship that would hold fast for all these years. Our very first jobs out of college in 1956 were on the campus of Mississippi Vocational College (MVC), Itta Bena, MS. It was here that I witnessed the birth of a beautiful partnership between Charles and his lovely wife Roberta. Their first child, Alisa, was born here! And oh what a wonderful time this was.

After that first year, our career paths took us in separate directions. Chuck settled in with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Through the years, weve maintained constant contact even though I spent almost a decade in the Middle East with our Departments of Defense and Labor. Our lifelong friendship was never more evident than in 1999 when I had to deal with serious health issues requiring the application of Radiation and Chemo procedures. Chuck was on the phone almost daily checking to see how I was doing. What a lift to both me and my wife to know that there was someone there to offer moral support!!

Im experiencing so much sadness trying to string together a few words that express what I really feel in my heart. I conclude that there are no words that can really do that. And so I say to you Roberta, Alisa, Cassandra, Rhonda, Joyce and whole family, our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your loving memories bring you comfort. A life well lived. Rest in peace BROTHER.

Charles was always "Brother" to me and I will always remember him for his kindness, patience and understanding. May you be comforted knowing that he is God's own child who is with his Heavenly Father and has joined his wonderful parents,
God bless and keep you all.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I missed seeing Brother McClinton in the park walking to get his exercise. He always wanted to stop and chat. And most of all he would tell us he would use this time to call his Mother every morning. How sweet is this! Now he can be with her and Jesus forever. Amen

Chuck was one of the two managers who agreed to hire me on at NASA in 1979. He didn't think I would stay long, based on my previous work history; 39 years later, I'm still here. When I moved into "Chuck's office" years after he retired, in my mind I kept hearing "What would Chuck say? What would Chuck do?" with regards to different situations that came up. I remember Chuck revered his wife Roberta, his children, his siblings, but most of all, his Mom. I got to know Chuck in a different light after retirement as we both worked for the Registrar of Voters to provide election support; I looked forward to those times to reconnect with him and catch up. I treasure the letters he would write me over the years, letters that showed his character and that encouraged me as a man, as a husband, as a dad. One Chuck "fun fact" is that he knew EVERYONE's birthday at work, he always wished you a happy birthday, and you knew when you came to work on your birthday there would always be a birthday card from Chuck on your chair. Another Chuck "fun fact" is that he knew people EVERYWHERE. We traveled a lot together on business, and would be sitting in an airport somewhere and before I knew he it was up, walking over to go talk to someone (family, friend, relative, business associate, etc.) that he recognized from afar. It may have been 20 years, but he knew them. Chuck mastered the art of networking before it was even a term. Miss you, Chuck!

Chuck hired me at NASA back in 1982 and I worked for him until he retired. He gave me the opportunity to work at NASA, and I'll always remember the phrase he told me: 'People don't change, circumstances change'..So true....Deepest sympathy for his family.
