Charles McInnis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 16 to Sep. 19, 2009.
McINNIS, Charles 1924 - 2009 At home on Sunday, September 13, 2009 of cancer at the age of 85. At Charles's request there will be no visitation or service. Charles was born in Crossroads Ohio, Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Despite farm chores, a one-room schoolhouse, and the need to later study by kerosene lantern at a lumber camp, he passed his provincials. He entered St. Francis Xavier University on scholarship and graduated in 1946 (cum laude) with a major in Latin and Philosophy. Turning down a room reserved for him at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax, he moved to Toronto where he met Corinne Connor, marrying her in Glace Bay in 1953. Four children followed: Everett (Linda), Celia, Nadine (Tim) and Charles. Corinne predeceased him in November, 2008 after 55 years of marriage. He was also the cherished grandfather of Nadia Fairbairn, Owen Fairbairn and Sarah Charlotte McInnis. His work in test design and personnel selection led him to join the Air Force, then to leave for civilian life to earn a PhD in Psychology in 1971. He launched a second career as a professor at the University of Ottawa, retiring as a full Professor in 1986. While appreciating his considerable intellect, his family will miss his various misadventures with all manner of machinery. Dad, that duck is still flying with your fishing rod attached.

To Charlie and Corinne's family:

Sorry to read of your father's passing - so soon after your mom's.

I have many happy memories of times spent with them in the 70s and of their kindness to me and my young family in Beacon Hill.

Just found some e-mails from Corinne in my files today and was sad...she was a wonderful teacher and superb musician...

I feel privileged to have known them.

Sincerely, Irene Dooling.
