Today is my dad's birthday. He would have been 85. He had so many wisecracks about everything, but mostly about himself. He probably would have made a big joke of how old and he was, how his brain power was diminishing and his skin wrinkling. He was a true hero of mid-century America, stoical and non-communacative about the horrors he witnessed in World War II, humble about his short-comings, humorous about the general state of life's affairs. He didn't like to talk about himself, but he had alot to say about politics and important matters of the world. He was highly intelligent and his thoughts were always cogent and eloquently spoken. He didn't care to be understood by anybody except his wife and children (and whoever he was on the phone with getting things "straightened out"!). He would give the shirt off his back to anybody in his circle -family, friends and extended family. He was generous and thoughtful. And boy, could he whistle. He was a great singer, but when that was pointed out, he would begin singing like Donald Duck. He had a great affinity with the kids, always cracking them up and slipping them good sized bills when we all got together for family picnics. The kids always loved Grandpa - or Uncle Chuck. And it was commented on by both nieces and nephews that he was by far the most stylish man in the family (a family of over 100!), and the most dashing man in their repertoire of acquaitances. He was the epitome of "cool". He had alot to learn when it came to manifesting the love in his heart - his parents split when he was a child during the depression, and life was tough. But he did eventually learn how to offer the deepest, warmest love to those who knew him, with special, endless reserves for his wife and children. When asked what his greatest accomplishment in life was, he said - "my kids, of course". He was the best dad in the world. He would do anything for his children. His greatest gift was his healing touch, his contagious smile, his wise-cracking goofball humor and his huge heart full of love. We miss you pops! You're always in our hearts.

I'll always remember how loving, kind, and generous Uncle Charles was to me and my wonderful deceased husband, Sonny, his nephew!
When Sonny was "courting" me....a woman was trying to find him through Delta Airlines corporate mail (one of many women because of the dashing airline captain that Sonny was!)! It turned out to be beautiful Berta Morrill ; Charles's precious wife. Sonny had never met the "California" Morrill's because his parents had separated when he was very young. Charles was Sonny's father's brother. I encouraged Sonny to meet Berta....we were invited to Charles and Berta's 50th wedding anniversery! Sonny and I found wonderfull relatives that he never knew existed at the elegant anniverseray party! We had a magical and wonderfull time! The rest is history....We were both blessed to find part of his wonderfull family and immediatly love them and treasure their friendship!
Sonny passed away in 2003....Uncle Charles, Berta and Danny flew to Sarasota to comfort me.
Charles,Berta, Danny and I visited the South of France together. We spent many wonderfull, memorable and happy "family" times together both in California and Sarasota.
I'll always treasure times that we spent....all over the world!
He was a dear "Uncle" to me whom will always be missed.....wish we could have had a few more years together!
Lovingly

My father is my hero. He grew into a family man with no guidance from a father of his own. As a father, he took his duties seriously. He could admit a mistake, grow from it, and improve with it. He was so forgiving. He taught us that we are all fallible, and that a request for forgiveness should always be honored. In his final months of life, Pop became the ever-so-funny, sweet, more and more loving and playful father we loved to be with. He showered us all with so much love..enough to last all of our lives. We will miss him dearly, as an example of a great man, a wonderful father, and the most loving husband any family could ever hope to have. Dad, I love you more.

The world lost an amazing man yesterday. He was one of the most brilliant, funny, loving person I have ever known, I feel privileged to have known him and so fortunate to have had him in my life as long as I did. The world is a better place because he was here and he will be missed more than words can express. Rest in peace grandpa. You will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts. I love you more!

Pops - Our Shooting Star
You'd open the door
Say "time to giddeyup,
Get your clothes off of the floor
Don't forget lunch money on the drawer"
You'd say "Sit down and eat,
you've got to be strong you've got to be fast on your feet
To get your A's to win the good race
you've gotta grow up - to be my special kid, oh yea, you're gonna grow up to be my special kid"
And when things go wrong
Like they always do
You paced and sweat and made the calls
To make it right
To turn it around and you always did
You always made it right - oh yea
You always made us feel all right
You drove us to school in the rain
and home from the nurses
You rushed us up the hospital stairs
when bones and organs were bursting
You stroked our hair when we were sick
Rubbed our ears when we were bored
You always made us laugh
We alwyas liked to laugh
And you still make us laugh
You still...make everything all right
Your smile...makes everything all right
And now the autumn winds are blowin' in
And it's not an easy time
But who says easy is what makes love so strong
And if that's the measure of our lives
Is the love we have to give
Then yours has been rich and glowing
Like a shooting star
The measure is how bright and far
And your life has been rich and bright
You're our shooting star
You'll always be, you'll always be our shooting star
That's who you are
Loving great-grandpa

Dad in the Arms of the Angels (rewritten for our Pops)
Spent your young life waiting
for that second chance
For the break that would make it ok
You found the courage
to work through your fears
to find something true deep within
You looked for the woman
to inspire your life
a love that would not be in vein
And God brought her to you
and showed you his ways
A love that surpasses all love
In the arms of the Angels,
fly away from here
From this place of pain and anguish,
to the light of heaven above
You found true joy in your family
and you learned to trust in God
You're in the arms of the Angels;
may you shine in the light of God's love
You were tired of your old ways,
and everywhere you turned
there was no hope to find something real
your life kept on twisting,
but God spoke to your heart
and his loving truth untied the knots
you gave love to your children,
you were the rock for your wife
and gave the best love you could give
But this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness
That brings us to our knees
In the arms of the Angels,
fly away from here
From this place of pain and anguish,
to the light of of his holy embrace
You found true joy in your family
and you learned to trust in God
You're in the arms of the Angels
May you shine in the light of God's grace

To me, my grandfather was such a magnificent person that I could write a thousand books about him. He was a very proud man, but had a huge heart and an awesome sense of humor. I would know – because he and my grandmother practically raised me. And for that, I will be forever grateful and will carry him in my heart for the rest of my life. I think I became closest to him in these last few months when he had slowly started to fade away. I think it was because he stopped worrying about the small things and was able to open up a bit more, and for that I consider myself a very lucky person – to have had the honor to help – to be by his side these last few months the way he had been for me my whole life. As long as I can remember, he and my grandma always had my back. Whenever I was in trouble or had no where to go, they were always there. Many times I alienated my parents, but he would always take me in, giving me advice and most importantly, love. My grandparents have always been my heroes - my inspiration, and will continue to be until it is my time.
It was hard for him to stay mad at anyone for a long period of time and no matter what the other person did, he would accept them back with open arms and heart. My grandfather was such a wonderful and loving person. I would feel so safe and comfortable when I was around him. I had let him down so many times, but yet he was always there, ready to take me back and forgive me no matter what I had done, and most importantly, wouldn’t judge or hold a grudge.
Words can’t describe how lucky and honored I’ve been to be around my grandparents - such beautiful people - for such a long time. In a weird and twisted way, I’m glad I got into the trouble I got into because it gave me the opportunity to spend all that wonderful quality time with two of the most special people I have ever come across. The biggest life lesson that my grandpa ever taught me was that no matter what kind of difficult past you grew up with, that with the love of grandma and Jesus, you can have a bright, heartfelt future.

El senor was a very special person for me. He was my husband's father, he was my daughters' GP, and he was my dad in law...but above all he was a man who brought a smile on my face every time I saw him. He was the man who made Anais laugh with his witty ways of telling her how much he loved her, he was the man who told Aisha how smart she was and how proud he was of her, he was the man who took care of Brian when we couldn't any more. There was no time in the 32 years I knew him that I wasn't glad to see him and hug him. I loved when him and GM spent the night because he couldn't say: “Bert, it's time to go”, I could enjoyed him for the whooole night! And when he did say that the next day I always tried to convince him to stay longer....GM did it too.
El senor was such a special person, he fought like a lion but talked like a wise man, respected you and loved you unconditionally, he loved the time he spent with his children more that anything else, he was a man of integrity and LOVE!
Now that I say good bye to him, I wonder if he knew how much I loved him, how much I admired him for his humbleness and forgiveness, how much he made me feel part of his life, how much I will miss him. I LOVE you senor!! Nina

AN EXCEPTIONAL MAN
When I think about Mr. Morrill, so many great memories come to mind - racing to church on Sunday mornings, whiling away summer days with a group at the beach, seeing him surrounded by paperwork, the phone in one hand and a steaming cup of coffee in the other. The example he set for me of commitment to family, of embracing responsibilities with grace . . . of always making me feel like I was a part of the family and someone who mattered in the world are not just gifts to me, but to my daughters as well. He set the bar high - he was a devoted husband and fierce father who was willing to put on many hats to be a true partner in raising his kids. Even after 40 + years of knowing him, he was never “Chuck” or “Charles” to me, even though I thought of him as a father figure. It was with the utmost respect that he will always be “Mr.” to me, an exceptional man.
Thank you Mr. Morrill. It has been an honor. When I count my blessings, you are always on the list.
Mrs. Morrill and Family:
We keep you all close in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much for including me in the celebration of Mr. Morrill’s life. It was such a beautiful program and truly in the Morrill family tradition. I will talk to you soon, but please don’t hesitate to call ANYTIME.

The world lost an amazing man last Friday. He was one of the most brilliant, funny, generous and loving people I have ever known. He always made me feel like the most special person in his life even though I know that he did the same for others. I never questioned how much he loved me or how proud he was of me because he took every opportunity to tell me so. I will miss his hugs and kisses, his sage advice, his loving words, his amazing stories, his support, and most of all, his unconditional love. I feel privileged to have known him and so fortunate to have had him in my life as long as I did. The world is a better place because he was here and he will be missed more than words can express. He will never be forgotten and will always be in our hearts. I love you more, Grandpa.
