Charles Mummert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 29 to Dec. 30, 2005.
Charles L. "Charlie" Mummert, 58, entered into God's eternal care on Tuesday evening, December 27, 2005, at Hanover Hospital, after a short but valiant battle against lung cancer. He was the loving husband of Nola M. ( Heverly) Mummert. The couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on June 9, 2005. Charlie was born December 16, 1947, and was the son of the late Raymond and Ethel (Trostle) Mummert of Hanover. Charlie was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover, the Loyal Order of the Moose in Gettysburg, the Home Association in McSherrystown, the Buchanan Valley Rod and Gun Club, the North American Hunting Club, and the Yellow Breeches Anglers and Conservation Assoc. Charlie was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, ATV riding, and spending as much time as possible at his cabin in Potter County. He also enjoyed Nascar racing. He was currently employed by Quebecor World in Fairfield for 29½ years, and prior to that with Doubleday and Company, currently Bookspan in Hanover, for 10 years. Surviving, in addition to his wife, Nola, is a son, Matthew R. Mummert and his wife, Michele of Pfafftown, N.C.; three grandchildren, Alyson D. Mummert of Pfafftown, N.C., and Shane N. Mummert and Devin M. Mummert, both of El Paso, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Jasmine Waples and Brandon Waples of Pfafftown, N.C.; two sisters, Fran Miller and her husband, Glen of New Oxford and Linda Bream and her husband, Frank of Hanover; and two brothers, Kenneth D. Mummert of Gettysburg and Gary M. Mummert and his wife, Jean of Hanover. Charlie was preceded in death by two brothers, Titus Mummert of East Berlin and Leonard Mummert of Hanover. Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 30 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, with Pastor Robert Maddox officiating, and retired Pastor Edward Keyser of St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, attending. Burial will be in the Garden of the Cross at Oak Lawn Cemetery, 1380 Chambersburg Road, Gettysburg. The viewing will be 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Wetzel Funeral Home, 549 Carlisle St., Hanover. A second viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the church, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Charlie's memory to Compassionate Care Hospice, 103 E. Market St., York, PA 17401; or to the American Lung Association, 1560 W. Market St., York, PA 17403.
