'Elroy' was a very talented musician. He could actually make a tuba sing...no easy feat...and he made your heart sing too.
Charlie is one of the funniest, most generous and most memorable people I have ever had the honor of knowing and I am thankful that we walked the same road for awhile.
Love you big guy

To the Pearsall Family:

It was a shock to learn of Charlie's passing away. I have never forgotten Charlie though having not seen him since high school and at the U of Windsor basketball games. As the prevailing sentiments expressed here indicate, he was well loved and appreciated... especially regarding his penchant for friendship and humor without being hurtful. He protected me during initiation day at RSS by having me do something silly that would occupy my time. He let me know that by so doing he was keeping me from a far worse fate because no one would dare interrupt him. 'Thanks Charlie'
It is indeed hard to lose the physical presence of one who so enriches our lives... but that very enrichment will serve to keep him close to all our hearts until the time that we are reunited.
May strength, peace, and comfort attend to your hearts as you traverse this path.

With much love,
Valerie Peacey

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Although I have lost touch with Charlie since high school, he was not someone you forgot. I went through Princess Anne, Cavell and Riverside with him. He was always a tease but never mean. The reason for those big shoes he had is now apparent -- and he has filled them in amazing ways. Please accept my deepest sympathies.

Dear Pearsall family,
Our fond memories of Charlie come from church, school and from carpooling with Charlie to Optimist Band. He enjoyed teasing us and we liked the attention. Our thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow.

To Mrs Pearsall, Liz, Patti & Sonja
I was so sorry to hear of Charlie's last month....Charlie has always has been and will continue to be an ever present part of our family. There's not a moment that goes by when either I hear a dribbling ball or look across the room at my tuba, or reminisce with our wedding pictures that I don't think of the times we spent together.
Our children who are now almost 30 still remember with great fondness his visit to us here in Powell River and the few times our visits back to Windsor coincided with each other.
There have always been and will continue to be lots of "Charlie" stories shared within our household.
I know that he will be greatly missed....but the many memories will continue to live on in our hearts.

God Bless,
Peter & Carol Sansburn

The last time I saw Charlie might have been at a Riverside High School reunion...years ago. I attended Princess Ann, Edith Cavell and Riverside with him and we also attended Riverside United Church together. He was so tall and I was rather short, but we saw eye to eye. I have fond memories. My condolences to his family.

Dear Mrs. Pearsall and Family:

I remember Charles in class and in the band at Edith Cavell and Riverside Secondary School. Charles always maintained a good sense of humour as a person, student, and athlete. His presence will be missed.

Betty, Sonja, Elizabth and Patti and families, I am so very sad to read about your loss. My fondest memory of Charlie was a Graham reunion in Knox church, Leamington when our Andrew was probably about 12 and Charlie and Sonja were home for the reunion and there was Charlie on his kness talking to me and Andrew laughing. God be with you all at this time.
Much love

Dear Aunt Betty,Liz, Patti and families --- we also were so sorry to hear of Charles' passing. I can remember when he wasn't an athlete!(hard to believe!) I think I remember he had to be talked into going out for basketball by the coaches. I also remember how kind Sonja and Charles were to Emily and Heather when they as girl guides went to Austria and were escorted on tours by them. It was one of the highlights of their trips! I also remember the after Christmas get togethers - Charles usually stood against the counter in Aunt Betty's kitchen. I think he was really proud when he finally got to be taller than Uncle Chuck. Our thoughts and prayers are with all the family at this time. It is as if we lost a brother that we did not have in our family. Love Bruce,Leslie,Emily, Heather,Sean and Talya

Dear Aunt Betty, Liz & Patti:
I still can't believe that Charles is gone - it just doesn't seem possible. I feel so fortunate that I was able to be his friend for most of our lives and classmates through Edith Cavell and RSS. I have so many memories of him from those years and will cherish them always. You are in my thoughts - please take care.
Love, Catherine (McCallum), Windsor, ON

Our thoughts and prayers for Sonja and the family.

Charlie and I were inseparatable our firts 2 years of University. We were like brothers.

Sonja and Charlie visited us quite often in Waterloo and my boys always knew him as their big Uncle Chuck.

As a follower of Christ I always go back to the Gospel of John 14 vs 1-6 when we lose a loved one where Jesus gives us the greatest promise & hope for all Mankind. He says that he will go and prepare a special room for his followers in Heaven.

I believe Charlie has just checked in and one day when the Lord decides to call me, I will see my good friend again.

All our love

I am so sorry to hear about Charlie's passing. I was in the Optimist Band with him and I remember that he was always at the centre of the fun. After the parades when we had all changed our clothes, he would put on his fedora. He could carry it off when nobody else could. He was a wonderful person. He will be missed deeply I am certain.

So sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. I have fond memories of watching his amazing appetite on our Optimist Band bus trips - who else could eat 3 whole meals of Big Macs and fries and milkshakes at one sitting?! Charlie always had a smile on his face, always fun, always kind. Condolences to his wonderful family. Be proud of who he was and the beautiful footprint (and his heart was as big as those feet!) that he left behind in this world.

Mrs. Betty Pearsall:
I am so sorry for your loss. My mom Barbara (Thomas) Wortley shared the news with me today and I did speak with my Dad about Charlie and the great Lancer memories we shared. Although I was just a kid back then, I still remember Charlie always taking the time to play some hoop games with me after each practice. He will be missed.
Our prayers are with you and the Family.

Sincerely,

Caroline McConnell

Ah, yes, Charlie was my good buddy back at Princess Elizabeth, Edith Cavell and Riverside High School. He played the sousaphone and I played trombone. The last time I saw him was 1974 when I played for the Western Mustangs and we were at U of Windsor playing against Charlie. I could not block the guy. Also remember eating an entire container of ice cream at his place in Windsor. So sorry to hear the bad news from my mom. Condolences to the family.

Got a chance to visit with Charlie and Sonja in Vienna about 10 years ago. He hadn't lost any of his sense of humor and we all got a good chuckle over the fact that they didn't make houses over there to fit him! Rest in peace now, Charlie.

My University of Windsor memories are peppered with fun-filled images of Charlie - whom we all loved. Although I last ran in to Charlie in Toronto in the late 90s, I feel a great sadness today in learning that this warm, sweet soul is no longer among us.
