Charles Rambo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 29, 2023.
Charles Edward Rambo, simply known as Rambo, was born August 5, 1941, in Tallahassee, Florida to the late Linton Rambo Sr. and Viola Kilpatrick. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior decades ago. To that beginning, he was baptized and became a member of Union Grove Baptist Church, Union City, Georgia. His desire to grow spiritually and develop a personal relationship with God were instrumental in leading him to accept his call to preach, his ordination as a Deacon at Christ the Lord Church and his final Ordination as a Pastor at Corinth Missionary Baptist Church under the late L.C. Gibson in 2014. Earlier this year, he became a member of Saint Peter Missionary Baptist Church, Atlanta, Georgia. Charles was called home by the Lord on June 13, 2023. Charles was preceded in death by his brothers, Lester Rambo, and Linton Rambo Jr.

Rambo spent his formative years in Tallahassee, Florida. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School. After graduation, Charles Edward would later relocate to Atlanta, Georgia in 1964. He would begin a career with the Atlanta Parks and Recreation Department where he served as Director of Anderson Park. Here, he was also the head football coach and built a youth footbal dynasty. The mighty Wolves garnered attention and earned state titles and recognition in Georgia and beyond. Rambo also held positions at the Southside Softball Complex and Atlanta Job Corps during his professional journey. However, wanting to provide the youth and community with access to organized athletics beyond football and the Atlanta Parks and Recreation Department, The Mercury Track Club was formed. The legacy of excellence in the lives of the youth in which he was fortunate enough to play a small or more significant role continued with track and field as it had with football. His athletic prowess was untivaled as an instructor, coach and mentor. To this end, The Atlanta City Council proclaimed June 24, 2023 as "Charles Rambo Day."

Charles leaves to cherish his memory: Annie Deloris Rambo; Children: Sabrina (David) Smith, Tony Rambo, Euodia Harris and Charles (Shannon) Rambo II; Grandchildren: Brittany, Alysa, Blaik, Kennedi, Ryleigh, Avery, Samari and Charles III; Sister-in-Laws: Annette Roberts Tawana Jackson and Lucile Rambo; Brother-in-Law: Isaac Jackson Jr.; Jewel Simmons (special friend) and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who he knew and loved during his lifetime.

Charles was truly a man of the people, always fostering a strong sense of community wherever he went. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, as his vibrant personality and passion for life left an indelible imprint on those around him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
