I first met Charlie in the summer of 1971. I had moved from Ann Arbor the prior December to Jamaica Plain and was looking for a new living situation. Through friends, Charlie and I were connected and lived with another buddy in Cambridge. A fond memory during the summer was watching Charlie´s fascination and amazement at East Coast thunderstorms-which we watched from a covered porch. We continued living together with other like minded friends in Cambridge and Somerville for five years sharing political discussions, music concerts, summer trips to coastal Maine and parts of Massachusetts, and many long enjoyable meals.
I´ll carry memories of Charlie´s political ideas and work and his ability to remake himself in different workplaces all aimed at creating a better world. I miss his warmth and friendship.
Sending condolences to Dag, Raz, Eric and family.

My heartfelt condolences to Dagmar and the family.
Charlie was a great guy. I first met him in the late 70s. I recall thinking that Charlie was politically astute and liked to laugh.
The last time I enjoyed his company ~ 7 years ago, was at the reception DJ dance party in Brooklyn NY at my daughter Anneliese Rosen´s wedding...watching the next generation strut their stuff!

I am never quite sure if there are words that can capture the depth of grief you feel after the loss of a loved one. Tim and I will always remember Charlie's smile, ability to connect with friends and commitment to making our world a more peaceful and equitable for everyone. Thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.

My earliest memory of Charlie was meeting him for the first time in Bernal Heights in 1970 in San Francisco. His dedication to the civil rights and anti war movement was a lasting inspiration and example to me. My condolences to his wife Dagmar and family.

Charlie - my beloved officemate! -used to have this carved wooden Guiro instrument on his desk that was shaped like a frog. One day, while we had a third co-worker visiting us, he picked the stick up from the Guiro and began playing a rhythm on the back of the frog. The next co-worker, Barbara "Cookie" Cooke, grabbed a jar of almonds from my desk and joined in with her homemade maraca, and them I jumped in on percussion with an empty tupperware container from my lunch bag. We all sat there for a minute laughing and grooving to the tune this ridiculous impromptu band was creating. So much fun, and a great memory.

Charlie was one person in a very tiny group of best friends I have. I am missing him so much already.
