Not sure what to say?

Charlie sure was missed this past Memorial Day weekend. At work, he may have been a Trojan warrior, but out here at the Pines, Fire Island, he was just one of the boys. He is fondly remembered for his ramrod straight posture and athletic abilities. He was loved by many out here.

My great Uncle. I knew you as a stern man who did not talk much about your life, but when you spoke I listened. You enjoyed sitting with the family including Grandpa, your brother, and enjoyed helping others. What a great man, I am proud to have the same name as you. You are missed, and loved. Auntie Linda, I send you my condolences and love.

Been perusing Google and found my old boyfriend Charlie.
We dated in the 60's, and he was always a gentlemen. At that time he was a patrolman, studying to climb the ladder. We went to parties at his place in Woodside, picnics, movies, dinners. I always felt safe knowing Charlie was "packing"!
Rest in peace old friend.

Charlie and I were former roommates dating back to the 50's. Space won't allow the many stories and many laugh's I could share with all his friends and fellow officer's. The ultimate expert in sports and politics and never short on versing his opinion. If you can hear me Charlie, I am still asking "Whose Chuck Bednaric" You will not leave our memory!

Chief Ruether was a man who said what he meant and meant what he said. Very few like that today. God bless and keep you Charlie.

I first met the chief when I was a rookie. He really took notice of me and as a result, I got to go to Police HQ! On the 4th floor, I got to meet a Dep. Commissioner! This encounter affected my career for 20 years.
Thank you Chief. I will never forget you!

As had been said, he was one of the last old-time bosses. We simply don't have bosses like him anymore.
At this time of loss, let us remember we have much to be thankful for.

R.I.P. Chief, you never forgot where you came from Patrolman Reuther. You were a P.B.A. member for your whole career and a great friend to cops in uniform. One incident never told before was the flag issue during the First Gulf War where you
put every cop (44 Pct) in the minor violations book, rather than a federal case. Smart man, great boss! My condolences to his family.

Chief Reuther, may this honorable man rest in peace. It was a real honor to work with you. No question you were dedicated to the NYPD

December 11, 2015

Not the best LIKED Chief in the NYPD, but was one of the most RESPECTED. No way could he survive in these "politically correct" times, nor would he have wanted to. One of the last of the old-time bosses, I only had two encounters with him, one good, the other not so good, but I will say I thought he understood, and never forgot the street cop. Bosses like him are gone for good, to the city of New York's great loss. May you rest in peace, Chief Reuther. Joe Timmons, Bradenton, FL, Retired N.Y.P.D.

What a partner, cop, Uncle, friend! Charlie was always at the top of the list. He steadfastly stood by his beliefs and principles no matter what the odds. If you disagreed, there was still a mutual respect. Always welcomed his company no matter how many years passed. We'll all miss you but won't forget how you touched us with the fondest of memories.
Linda, you were the best part of his life.

He taught me that there are three kinds of bosses: Those that make things happen. Those who watch things happen. And those who ask, "What happened?" Tough man, but definitely someone I respected.

Rest in peace Uncle Charlie. You touched many lives throughout your NYPD career but never more than those of your nieces & nephews. We're so sorry for your loss Trish & Tom, we know how close you were to your uncle. We also want to extend our condolences to Linda and the entire Reuther family. Charlie will be missed by all his Bay Harbor friends. I will always have fond memories of Jim and him "solving the world's problems" at the umbrella table at the pool....along with other good memories. My sympathy, Linda.

When I was a UC in MSNA he gave me his take home car to use as a flash car as ours was out of service and I was working a major Case. He insisted upon trying your best and if you were a worker he backed you up 100%. There were several other occasions that he backed me up totally. He was a great Boss!

Chief, you were a excellent mentor and a great boss! You demanded excellence from those who worked for you but you never asked anyone to do something you wouldn't do yourself. It was a singular honor and pleasure to have worked for you!! Rest in peace my Chief!!!

The Chief was an angel over my shoulder since I was a Sgt. in Narcotics. He watched again when he was Chief Of Patrol in the Bronx, when I was a Lt. We went to the Detective Division the same day in 1995 and he watched over me than. May the Lord and his Angles now watch over him.
