Charles Richardson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 23, 2018.
Charles Weldon Richardson, born August 26, 1929 to Gertrude Pearl (Autry) and Joseph Edgar Richardson, died peacefully April 22, 2018 in Tyler. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Genevieve (Cornelison), sons, Charles Weldon JR, Jimmy Wayne, and Thomas Wade, brother Harold Richardson of Tyler, 10 grand children, and 15 great grandchildren. Also important in his life were his 3 daughters-in- law Marianne, Terry, and Karen.

Weldon was an active member of the Tyler First Baptist Church and the faith he imparted to his family was part of everything he was and everything he did.

Weldon was a devoted husband and father. He taught family values, personal responsibility, and work ethic to all members of his family. Sometimes he did this verbally while pursing his favorite hobbies fishing, gardening, and wood working. Mostly, however, he taught by example.

He was a professional educator and mentor of young men. Starting as an 8th grade Math teacher in the Corpus Christi school district, he advanced to become an extremely respected and successful football and track coach at Miller HS. He completed his professional career as a vice principal at Ray HS.

After retirement, he served the community helping his church-sponsored Family Assistance Center provide food and other items to those in need, and managing the gym facilities at the church. He will be missed.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at First Baptist Church Tyler with Rev. Pike Wisner officiating, under direction of Jackson's Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be Nathan Collins, Chad Richardson, Jack Hibbard, Adam Bush, Russell Thomas Richardson and James Weldon Richardson. Honorary pallbearers are Neil Johnson, Greg Richardson, Stuart Richardson and Russell Tabor.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Alliance of Smith County, 211 Winchester Drive, Tyler, Texas 75701. To view online, please go to www.burkswalkertippit.com.

Weldon was such an inspiration to me. I knew him from the First Baptist Church Gym where he worked early in the mornings when I came to walk. I knew he wanted to continue to care for his wife as long as he was able. He was so devoted and dedicated to her well-being. May God comfort his family. My thoughts and prayers are with them all.

Weldon Richardson was our head coach in the 9th grade at Driscoll Jr. High for 1960-61. He then followed our class to Miller High School. He was truly a positive influence on all of us. We were all proud to call him Coach.
