Charlie, Sonny and BJ all took me under their wings when I came to Travis and allowed me to be score keeper for the tennis league. He will truly missed. Once a Rebel, Always a Rebel.

To Charles Roberts Family,
It was a pleasure working with Charles for over 20 years at Wm. B Travis High School. Charlie loved his family and the daily students he coached and guided as a counselor. Thank you Charles for your dedication and professionalism to teaching. All my Love to your family...and you have earned a beautiful eternal rest. Love and Blessings to a Rebel True Family Member. Charles was one of my favorite cousins and will be missed by all in the Roberts family. I visited with him a few years ago with Lonna and her mother where he confessed setting off the firecrackers with Sonny. Also, he gave me good advice with the caregiving of my parents at one of the reunions. Will keep the family in my prayers.

Charles, whether talking over a microphone at the stadium or visiting with relatives or friends, always caught and captivated the attention of those listening. He loved sports, especially track and field where he had is greatest success as an athlete and recognized voice of sports events in Austin. At family gatherings, he was a gifted story-teller who kept us all laughing with his stories of everyday life. He loved his family and his friends, taking great joy in his children and grandchildren. May God grant Charles and his family peace and understanding knowing that his life made a positive difference for so many others.

Charlie was a colleague and Rebel True during my years as an English teacher at Travis High. It was a special time of singleness of purpose as a faculty and a sense of comraderie that I have never experienced at any other time or place. Charlie contributed to that. He took pride in the accomplishments of his students and urged them on to excellence. We were a family, and he is missed.

For me, Charles was a larger than life character! I always knew that when I walked into a room that he was in he was going to start joking ("picking on") with me. And I loved it(as a child and as an adult)! I can remember as a little girl going to the AAU track meets in the summer and asking Daddy if Charles was going to be announcing. I knew that if Charles was there he was going to say my name somehow (even if I wasn't competing)! I can hear him now..."Well there's Gayla Groves sitting in the stands" or when it was real quiet he would say, "Hi Gayla!" I also have a wonderful memory of Charles sitting in Aunt Edna's living room telling jokes and old stories while Sheri was yelling (ya know we aren't a quiet family)from the kitchen into the living room to someone (probably Bess Ann). Glenn and Duane were outside wrestling while Uncle Curtis was riding on his stationary bike. Aunt Edna was in the kitchen cooking and there was lots and lots of laughter throughout the house! Can't beat those family get togethers and all the old stories that were told! Charles was definately one of a kind and he will be missed dearly! This little girl will always remember him!

Sheri,
You and your family are in my prayers. Your dad was a fixture in the stands at all our sporting events growing up. I'm so sorry hear of his passing.

Charles was a teacher, coach, colleague, and friend at William B. Travis High School in the Austin Independent School District during my tenure as band director. He was an excellent and dedicated educator for students. Charles's family has my deepest sympathy for your loss.
