Charles "Ron" Pogue Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 22, 2024.
Charles Ronald Pogue, 82, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024. Born on September 23, 1942, to Hazel Bradford (Laslie) and John Pogue, Ron was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Tommy and Stella Laslie, in Cloverport, Kentucky, with the support of his mother, Hazel, and stepfather, Bruce Bradford. Known as "Ron" to friends and "Pops" to his sons and many others, he lived a life marked by love, service, and joy.

Ron proudly served his country for 30 years as a Chief in the U.S. Navy, where he embodied dedication and honor. After retiring from the Navy, he continued his legacy of service as a Deputy Sheriff for the Chesapeake, Virginia, Sheriff's Department for over a decade. He was respected for his unwavering commitment to his duties and his community.

Above all, Ron loved his family-especially his sons, Tommy and Chris, whom he cherished more than anything. He was also a devoted grandfather to his seven adoring grandchildren, who were captivated by his storytelling, "bull rides" on his knee, bird whistles, and other jokes.

Ron was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Sadie Pogue, as well as the mother of his boys and wife of 25 years, Myrtle Lee Pogue (Sebastian). He is survived by his sons, Thomas Pogue (Tristan) and Charles "Chris" Pogue (Kara); his grandchildren, Zade, Charlie, Everly, Teagan, Henry, Austin, and Elowen; his siblings, Larry Bradford, Ronnie Pogue, and Debbie Bradford; and many, many friends who knew Ron as loyal, loving, and someone who never met a stranger.

A natural storyteller with a big heart, Ron brought warmth and laughter to every room. His tales, full of wisdom and humor, will be remembered by all who had the privilege of hearing them.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Trinity Church, 401 35th Street, Virginia Beach, VA, 23451 at 11:00 a.m.

Ron's big personality, endless stories, and joyful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

I met Ron about 2010. He and Sadie would come into Farm Fresh to shop. Sadie introduced me to him and I love him from the start. Always happy and joking. He and I talked about NASCAR and family. Great man who will be missed by all who new him. Betty Reed
