Charles Shanklin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 28, 2025.
Charles Lee Shanklin Jr., of Shaker Heights, Ohio, passed away on April 1, 2025, at the age of 18. Born on August 22, 2006, in Lorain, Ohio, Charles lived a life marked by dedication, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility far beyond his years.

A hardworking individual, Charles balanced full-time employment at Amazon with delivering for DoorDash on his days off. His commitment to his work reflected a maturity and drive that inspired those around him. At just 18 years old, he proudly achieved the milestone of purchasing his first vehicle-a 2025 Honda-an accomplishment that brought him immense pride.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Charles had a profound impact on his community. He served as a big brother figure to many local youth, offering rides to and from work and providing positive outlets to keep them engaged and away from harmful influences. His efforts helped create a safer and more supportive environment for those who looked up to him.

Charles had a passion for basketball and spent countless hours honing his skills on the court. When not playing sports, he enjoyed gaming on his PlayStation 5, especially immersing himself in Fortnite battles. His enthusiasm for life extended to supporting his brothers' musical pursuits; he was one of their biggest fans and unwavering supporters.

Charles leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his mother Stacey Shanklin; father Charles Shanklin; brothers De'Marvie'a Gilliam of Birmingham, Alabama; T'Ovyon Thomas of Rocky River, Ohio; Zy'Quon Gilliam, Donte Higgins Jr., and Charl'zi Shanklin, all of Shaker Heights, Ohio; sisters Pierrcia Sims of Birmingham, Alabama; Charl'zeon Gilliam of Willoughby, Ohio; and Ja'Quontie'a Thompson of Euclid, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandmother Camellia Shepherd of Elyria, Ohio, and aunt Florence Noble of Willoughby, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by uncles Warren T. Gilliam, Steven Witherspoon, and Damion Atkinson; great-grandmother Florine Tillman; great-grandfather James Gilliam Sr.; and grandfather Willie Witherspoon.

Charles's life was a testament to kindness, perseverance, and leadership. Though he left this world too soon, the positive influence he had on those around him will continue to resonate for years to come. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved him.
