Charles Skinner

What a man. I had him for Geography class in 1965. I always looked forward to his class. He made learning fun. I read about his passing away a few years ago and just looked his obit. up now. The Lord has truly blessed you.

Dear Skinner Family,

I was sorry to hear about your father's passing on Labor Day, from a former schoolmate.

I want to tell you that I adored him as a teacher, had him for Social Studies at Highland Park Sr High. Almost thirty years later, the ideas & exposures he gave us then - well they probably kept me out of trouble and still resonate profoundly for me - so I pass this on to our kids. He was way ahead of his time.

I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad, I just heard about his passing from a family member. I remember his morning announcements on the PA at Highland Sr. High. and I liked having him for a teacher when I was there.

I met Skip just before he was retiring. He was my mentor for Student Council Advisor and I had big shoes to fill. He loved his work--it showed in everything he did at Highland. He even came back and sub'ed for me a few times because he just didn't want to leave teaching! My deepest condolences to his family, he was a wonderful man full of life.

I liked Mr. Skinner as my Civics teacher in 9th grade and as my Psychology teacher in 12th grade, but after attending the funeral today, I have so many more reasons to like him. Students so often know so little about the lives their teachers live outside of the school walls, and I appreciated the insight into Mr. Skinner's life. Clearly, he enjoyed many blessings in this life, as I'm sure he will in the next.

Please accept my condolences on your loss. I had him for Western Civilization class in 10th grade. History wasn't my thing, but he made it so fun! I especially remember the archiological dig that we did when studying Mesopotamia (wherever that is!). And after that class I would see him when he came into the Hardware Store where I worked, and he always remembered my name. I always wondered if he was still around whenever I drove past the house by Sibley Plaza.

Thank you, Mr. Skinner, for all the good memories, from me and the Class of '75.

I never met Skip but read the obituary and want to say to you, his family, that your words about him are an inspiration to me and I thank you for sharing them. Indeed, I will . . . "show someone [I] love them." Blessings and comfort to you.

Mr. Skinner will be missed. He was a great teacher to all of us.

Skip was a great teacher and always had a good day. I know I learned so much more from him now as I look back than I would have known while at highland - class of '96. I was also nice to occasionally see him at church. I'm sorry for your loss and wish you well.

Mr Skinner was a great person and teacher. I really respected him. He was one of the originals at HP and will be greatly missed. He was our badminton coach for a year and showed clock work orange in pysch class- I am still afraid of eye drops. He will be greatly missed! Thoughts and prayers with family and friends!

Mr. Skinner was definitely one of the highlights of going to HP. He was a kind and compassionate person and fun to have on a tour. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.

I just looked back in my Highland '79 Tartan Yearbook, and found this thoughtful inscription --" ... who will I play racquetball with now? Keep in touch and any kind of help I can give just ask -- Best Always, Mr. S." I remember him as an incredibly positive force during my high school years, always encouraging and upbeat. And what great hair! My condolences to all of Mr. Skinner's friends and family.

Mr Skinner was truly a teacher's teacher. Respected by students and teachers alike, he shared his passion for teaching with everyone. He didn't judge....he encouraged. My wish for all my children is to have one teacher like Skip Skinner.

We are saddened and express our sympathy to Jean and the family. We always enjoyed our times with Skip and his friends.

I remember Mr. Skinner fondly as a 10th grade history teacher who cared about the kids as much as he did about his subject. He was interested in the average student as much as the talented or the challenged ones.

Dear Skip's loved ones,
Although over 37 years have passed, the memories of this most remarkable man are still in my mind and heart. How lucky we all were to have had Skip in our lives.
He always made me smile and laugh, even when I think about him and all of our antics today.
I can only hope that the wonderful memories of yours (and ours) and all of these tributes will help you through this sorrowful time.
I will never forget him.

My Psychology class with Mr. Skinner was the class I most looked forward to during my time at Highland Park. His personality and love for teaching made it a pleasure to attend, he will be in my memories forever.

I fondly remember Mr. Skinner's history class. He was not only a character, but a stand up man who made history come alive! Back in the day, when ditching class was the "cool" thing to to, Mr. Skinner's (Skip's) class was the one class you didn't want to skip! He touched my life and many others throughout the years.

Skip, I know you will be missed dearly by everyone, most of all by Jean. Your family, friends and all who knew you.

You will be missed in all your walks of life which were many.

The loss of Skip brings back wonderful memories. He was our chaperone on a class trip to Hawaii back in 1981. I don't think that our group could have asked for a more wonderful person to go with us. Thank you for sharing him with us.
