There have been a number of times that I just out of the blue thought about my friend Charlie. Stupid to say it I was about to pick up the phone and call him once only to remember he had crossed the bar. In our living room is a stained glass lamp that every evening goes on that Charlie made for our family and business. Often if i see it snap on I think fondly of him. In our daughters room is a wooden soldier that is about 3 feet tall that stands guard next to her bed. It remains in her room in the same position 30 years later and is one of her most cherished positions guarding her from harm in the dark. Only my buddy could have done something like that. Thank you and God bless you Lynn and the children and grandchildren of such a great and loyal friend.

Charlie was a legend and he was also loved. We saw him at the last ships reunion with Chuck and Pat, we being Jerry and Carolyn. He was in rare form. He had the best time at my Mom's home after our wedding and we left for our honeymoon to Norwich for the night, leaving the Chief's Quarters at my Mom's still celebrating our wedding. We have lost another one of the great ones....Our condolences to the family and Lynne. RIP Charlie....Love and Blessings, Jerry and Carolyn

What a legacy this cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and family man this amazing guy leaves behind. He gifted all of us with such loving memories of wonderful times. I feel overwhelmingly blessed to have known and spent the best times with him and his beautiful family. He will live on in countless hearts. I pray that the Sladky family might find comfort in the days ahead remembering the fun-loving and funny times he showered us with. All My Love , Stace

Charlie, we are going to miss you. Printed words on paper will never be able to describe you. I worked with Charlie yet I could describe him as warm, loving, funny, could make you smile in a heartbeat, could bring down to earth commonsense to the craziest situations. I am going to miss his homespun wisdom, sense of patriotism, commitment to our friendship, the phone calls , remembering our past together and laughing at things. I will miss how he enjoyed macaroni and clams and the help he provided me when we were younger at my business. He was a renaissance man.....I sincerely mean that. Till today in our daughters room is a 3 foot tall wooden clothes tree handmade up as a wooden soldier. Handpainted in uniform a simple but meaningful sentinel that reflected some of Charlies core values. I admire Charlie and am proud and grateful to call him a friend. When NU and i parted on not the best of terms he was one of the first to pick up the phone and even before asking me what happened said I am here for you how can i help. Pure sincerity. While not working together professionally we remained close and in some ways grew closer. This wonderful man made stained glass........this talented mechanic and welder. In my living room i have till today a stained glass hand made lamp and it as one of my most treasured items. That light goes on daily and every time it does I think of him. He also made a custom lamp for my daughter that remains in her room shining light on the light of my life.
We are sad for Lynn and her family but are also comforted that there is a place for this great man who through his daily actions was as solid as a rock of granite. I will always think of him reading his paper in the am doing the puzzle. We love you Mr Sladky. Thank you for helping me see a few of my many flaws and helping me and my family become better people not thru your words but your actions.

Such a fun loving guy! We will continue to reflect on the funniest memory you left us Nieto’s when you planted a big kiss on my Dad. Whenever I saw you out and about you always made it a point to say “Give that Wally a big kiss and tell him it’s from Charlie”. We will never forget what a jokester you were and how much you loved your family. My condolences to all of the Sladky family.

Mr Sladky you were a great influence for me for most of my life. You provided great advice on relationships and showed me how a man should carry himself. I am heartbroken that you will not be there to offer the same advice for others however I know you will carry on with everyone you touched. Thanks for allowing me into your family’s life. I know I am a better person for knowing you!

Charlie was a talented mechanic, welder, and leader of men. He was also an all around good guy. I was proud to call him my friend.

He always made me laugh. I asked him why he was welding spikes on the trash trough and he said "Fergie, I don't ask why, I just do it." Now we call them ninja spikes.
