Dr. Charles Edward Spangenberg

Dr. Charles Edward Spangenberg Jr. passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023. He was born on March 4, 1939, to Charles Edward Sr. and Helen Spangenberg in South Bend, Indiana and grew up in St. Joseph, Michigan. His family moved to Pebble Beach as he was completing dental school at Marquette University; he then joined them to begin his dental practice on the Monterey Peninsula. He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Mary Ann Spangenberg; daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Erik Larson; daughter and son-in-law, Joanna and Stephen Andres; son Charles Spangenberg III; and six grandchildren; Jack, Samantha, Braeden, Joshua, Charlie IV, and William. In addition, he leaves behind his sister Karen Ristau of Michigan, and was preceded in death by his sister Holly Patterson. In addition to practicing dentistry for over 40 years, Charles served two years in the Navy, was a commercial salmon fisherman and spent his extra hours building and restoring classic cars. He enjoyed woodworking, and cooking and could be counted on to come up with a solution to any mechanical problem. As to his wishes, the family will be holding a private celebration of life.
