Age 89, of Chadds Ford, PA, died peacefully on August 28, 2010, at Brandywine Assisted Living at Longwood. She was the daughter of James and Bessie (Lady) Ashworth of Miami, FL.
A graduate of Miami Senior High School in Miami, FL in 1938, Libby then earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Miami, Miami, FL in 1942.
She married Lt. William E. Reid in Miami in December 1942 and subsequently lived in various places including Germany, Bermuda, California, Vermont and Washington, DC. In 1960 following her husband's retirement from the Air Force, they settled on Fairville Road in Chadds Ford.
Libby had a long and successful career teaching at Greenville Elementary School for over 20 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed one of her favorite pursuits, traveling. For many years, she and her husband William traveled extensively over 5 continents.
Libby is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years. Survivors include her three sons, William E. Reid, Jr. and his wife Isabel of Aiken, SC; Brett J. Reid of Chadds Ford, PA; Kent S. Reid and his wife Christina of Lincoln University, PA; as well as 4 grandchildren, Rachel Reid of Edinburgh, Scotland, Cassandra, Eric and Joshua Reid of Lincoln University, PA.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm, on Friday September 3, at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. Interment will be private.
