Charles Keir Thompson

Aberdeen - Charles Keir Thompson, 74, of Aberdeen and formerly of Northville, S.D., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at his residence. Memorial services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at Northwestern United Methodist Church in Mellette, S.D. with Rev. Jon Damaska officiating. Inurnment will be held at the Fairview Cemetery at Northville. A time of fellowship will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Miller-Huebl Funeral Home, 1111 South Main St., Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements. Charles Keir Thompson was born June 20, 1930, to John and Adeline (Pray) Thompson in Aberdeen. The family lived on the Thompson farm, north of Northville, S.D. He attended school at Northville and graduated in 1948. Charles entered the Army in September of 1952 and served in the Korean War in Kentucky and Germany until September of 1954. On Sept. 7, 1952, Charles married Arlene Marks. After he was discharged from the military, they made their home on the Thompson farm. On Dec. 31, 1975, Charles was united in marriage to Luella Davies Nelson in Redfield, S.D. They resided on the Thompson farm until they moved to Aberdeen in the spring of 2001. Charles Keir enjoyed life on the farm and his trucking business. He had many friends that he cherished. Fishing was a heartfelt passion for him. He belonged to the Northwestern United Methodist Church in Mellette, the Redfield V.F.W. and the Northville American Legion, of which he was a 50-year member. Grateful for sharing many precious years are his wife, Luella; two sons, Gregg (K'Lynn) Thompson of Roseau, Minn. and Garry (Joan) Thompson of Pierre, S.D.; one daughter, Dawn (Mark) Ruley of Baltimore, Md.; two stepsons, Scott (Mary) Nelson of Mansfield, S.D. and Stewart (Lisa) Nelson of Warner, S.D.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one sister, Lola Binfet of Aberdeen. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. Honorary casketbearers include, Gary Bebo, Dean Boekelheide, Evan Brown, Cornelius Clemens, Robert Forsythe, Vern Frericks, Harold Haselhorst, Vernon Haselhorst, Orion Waterman and Charles' loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
