Charles "Charlie" Vermorel

Obituary:

Charlie Vermorel passed away on May 27, 2024, in Apple Valley, California, at the age of 67. Born on August 14, 1956, in Hollywood, Florida, Charlie's departure was preceded by his best friend, Bill Slattery and loving parents, Charles Vermorel and Katherine Vermorel.

Charlie was a proud graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School (class of '74). After high school, Charlie briefly attended the University of Florida before completing his bachelor's degree from Florida Atlantic University. Later on, Charlie would also earn a master's degree from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Charlie served his country with pride as a member of the United States Air Force from 1980-1991. During this time he achieved the rank of Captain while also serving as an instructor for the ROTC program at the University of Florida.

After leaving the Air Force, Charlie would work nearly 25 years as a tax auditor for the Florida Department of Revenue before retiring in 2016. Charlie spent the last years of his life in the high desert of Southern California with his wife Paula.

Charlie was a lover of music having been in multiple bands during his teenage years. He loved playing the guitar and was an avid listener of smooth jazz and classic rock. Charlie's other big passion was animals. Over the course of his life he had many pets (particularly special to him were his dachshunds; Teddy and Woody). Charlie was also a devoted catholic who kept a strong faith throughout his life.

Charlie leaves behind his wife, Paula and dog, Belle (Apple Valley, California); step-children, Laura and Kristofer (Apple Valley , California); life-long best friends, John Wheeler (Plantation, Florida) and Bernie Contreras (Jacksonville, Florida); and son, Greg Vermorel (Chicago, Illinois).

A small service will be held in the fall in Gainesville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Humane Society or a local animal shelter.
