Dr. Charles R. Whelan

Dr. Charles R. Whelan, 78, of Township of Washington, NJ, formerly of Cresskill, NJ, entered into eternal rest on November 5, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer.Beloved husband of Kathleen Whelan. Loving father of Kathleen Scapp and her husband Mark, Maureen and Colleen Whelan. Adored grandfather of Julia Scapp. Also survived by his sisters, Edith Cullen and Dolores Bonica and eight loving nieces and nephews.Charles served honorably in the United States Army after graduating from St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ. He earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and maintained his private practice for 40 years in his native town of West New York, NJ. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Sunday, November 8th from 2-6 PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at the Church of the Presentation, 271 W. Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, NJ on Monday, November 9th at 11AM. Burial will be private.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the American Cancer Society , 20 Mercer Street, Hackensack NJ 07601, would be appreciated.
