Charles A. "Chuck" Whitcomb, Sr. passed away on December 17, 2022. He was born April 16, 1929, and was the youngest son of Hoyt B. Whitcomb and Mary Moseley Whitcomb. Chuck was a lifelong resident of Greensboro, NC until he moved to Twin Lakes Community in Burlington, NC in March of 2006 with his wife Marilyn Jenkins Whitcomb. He graduated from Greensboro Senior High School in 1948, where he was a three-letter athlete and the co-captain of the undefeated 1946 football team. After high school he enrolled at Guilford College on an athletic scholarship, where he played football and basketball. He graduated from college in 1952 and went into the US Army where he served two years during the Korean War, attaining the rank of sergeant. After the service, he went to work with Armour & Company as a salesman for a short period of time until he started his own insurance agency representing State Farm Insurance Companies. He worked in his agency for 40 years and received many sales awards and honors. He married Marilyn Jenkins of Atlanta, Georgia on December 13, 1952. Chuck was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn; sister Jean Whitcomb Warfield and his brothers Paul Whitcomb and Hoyt B. Whitcomb. He is survived by Cynthia Whitcomb Wade and her husband Randy of Denver, Colorado, his son Charles A. Whitcomb, Jr. and wife Linda of Hyannis, MA and Laurie Whitcomb Lavery and her husband Bobby of Vero Beach, FL and 11 grandchildren as well as 18 great-grandchildren.

He very much enjoyed playing golf and tennis with his friends at Sedgefield and Greensboro and later playing golf with his friends at Twin Lakes.

A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington at 10:30 a.m. this Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022 and then a private graveside service to follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
