Charles Whiton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 5 to Jan. 6, 2024.
Charles (Charlie) Whiton, 69, of Arvada, CO, passed away of natural causes on December 30, 2023 at his home.

Charlie was born on December 11, 1954, in Laurium, MI. He grew up in White Pine, MI and graduated from White Pine High School in 1973. He attended Michigan Technological University and graduated with a BS in Business Administration in 1977.

Charlie worked in the White Pine Mine and the Cleveland Cliffs Mine in Ishpeming, MI as a young adult. He went on to work in Sales, most recently for Compliance Solutions in Denver. Later he enjoyed his job working in Security for a local Denver company.

Charlie enjoyed the outdoors and spent time fishing and camping in Colorado. He also loved to bird hunt in the fall in Upper Michigan with his lifelong friend, Mike Sybeldon. Charlie grew up on Lake Superior and it remained very dear to him throughout his life.

Charlie was usually described as a "character" and he never met a stranger. Once you met him, you would never forget him. He was a devoted Packers fan from the get go and we all knew not to call him while the Packers were playing. As his dad would say, "When they made Charlie, they broke the mold". Among other things, Charlie left us with his legendary stories as anyone who knew him could attest. He was very knowledgeable about history and sports and met some significant folks during his life. These stories will be shared for years to come, we have no doubt.

Charlie took great pride in his daughters, Shannon Whiton of Minneapolis, MN and Wendy Whiton of Chicago, IL. He is preceded in death by his father Ronald Whiton, in addition to his daughters, he is survived by his mother, Helen Whiton, Calumet, MI; brother Dr. Alan (Monica) Whiton, Sevierville, TN; sisters Joan Whiton, Calumet, MI, Sharon (Wayne) Olson, Green Valley, AZ, Laura (Brian) Foster, Meridian, ID; numerous nieces and nephews who knew him as "Uncle Luvabull" and more friends than we know.

A celebration of his life is to be determined in Calumet, MI in the spring. Donations can be made to Homes For Our Troops as Charlie was a longtime supporter of military/veterans.

I worked with Charlie at Kensington. Along with Vince Schweitzer (RIP), we had some great times with the K-team gang. From how we collected, played softball and Billy´s Old Mill, he was definitely a character and well known in Milwaukee. A great Fin! Sisu my brother. Love you! Before I retired, I helped run a number of fundraisers for Wakefield-Marenisco athletics. Charlie always donated despite living so far away. Thanks, Charlie!
