Charles W. Wilhite

Mr. Charles William Wilhite, age 94, of Springfield, Missouri passed away on September 13, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 5, 1922 in Springfield, Missouri. The son of Charley Roscoe and Gertie S. (Robertson) Wilhite. Soon after, his sister Jane was born to complete their family. Charles served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1942-1946 in the South Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. On September 13, 1952 he was united in marriage to Inis Irene Willoughby. From this union two sons were born, Charles Daniel Wilhite and William Burton Wilhite. Charles spent 25 years as a correctional officer at the US Federal Medical Center in Springfield before he retired. He enjoyed fishing in his free time and found peace from his stressful job. Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who always made himself available to help his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, Irene, and his grandson, Chad William Wilhite. Charles is survived by his two sons, Dan Wilhite and his wife, Lana, of Ozark, Missouri, and Bill Wilhite and his wife, Michele, of Republic, Missouri; a sister, Jane Wilhite of Springfield, Missouri; other family members and friends. A private family service will take place at a later date.

I had the privilege of meeting Charlie (C.W.) when he was already in years. Always a gentleman with a good sense of humor. I will miss seeing him when I go to visit Jane, his loving sister.
