URBANA – Charles A. Williams Jr. of Urbana Ohio passed away peacefully in his home Saturday, April 29, 2023 just before celebrating his 67th birthday.
He was born May 4, 1956 in Springfield, Ohio, the son of Charles and Juanita (Cremeans).
Charles is survived by his daughter, Taryn (Scott) Brassard; grandchildren, Caleb and Sadie Brassard; sister, Deborah Lee; sister-in-law, Lisa Williams; nephews, Bryan (Megan) Lee, Dustin (Jennifer) Lee, Seth (Christopher) Williams; nieces, Karlie (Alex) Williams, Hope and Lisa Williams; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; best friend and son, Eric Williams; brothers, Patrick Williams, Michael Williams, Barry Williams and brother-in-law, Robert Lee.
"Charlie" grew up near Terre Haute at "the farm" on Stony Creek Road with his siblings and spent his later years living within the city of Urbana. Friends from both his early and adult life were a central part of Charlie's world.
He graduated from Graham High School in 1974 where he excelled in wrestling, football and baseball. Charlie had both an ornery and tender spirit, a true 70's child, and those who knew him would be able to share countless stories. After high school, Charlie briefly attended Wittenberg University before beginning a long career as a cable lineman. He hung cable all across the country and took great pride in his work. Thank you, Kevin and Chuck, for always staying by his side.
Charlie was everything but ordinary – his emphatic voice could be heard from afar and he had no reservations when it came to engaging with people. Charlie would strike up a conversation with anyone and was a friend to everyone (mostly).
Charlie loved adventuring in the woods, hunting mushrooms and fresh berries at the farm. He enjoyed attending Graham wrestling meets and keeping up with current events. He was great at predicting the weather. Charlie enjoyed eating homemade pies made by his Aunt Ina and Mother Juanita. He was an avid gardener, enjoying both indoor and outdoor plants, and he had a love for buying dying flowers and bringing them back to life.
If you are a resident of Urbana, more than likely you knew Charlie. Thank you to those at the Urbana Police Department, Recovery Zone, employees at UDF, the various churches that Charlie found himself a part of and the residents of Urbana for engaging in conversations and showing great kindness to Charlie. His vivacious presence will be deeply missed.
A formal ceremony will not take place at this time, but those who knew Charlie will celebrate him daily and rejoice in his faith in Jesus. In lieu of flowers or donations, please share a simple act of kindness to your neighbor in remembrance of Charlie. And maybe plant a flower or two for him.
