I just wanted to add one more 'vodka in the ear' story as I remember our wonderful, and caring pediatrician. My 4 month old son began screaming on a flight to Florida to visit my parents and continued to scream for the next hour. In desperation, I called Dr. Woods quite late at night with my screaming son at my hip. Dr. Woods told me to put vodka in his ear and I thought I misheard him through the screaming. So he screamed back...'Put Vodka in his ear!' 'Put Vodka in his ear?' 'Yes, put Vodka in his ear.' Dr. Woods waited patiently while Grandma retrieved a dropper & Vodka from the freezer. As soon as the vodka hit his ear he immediately stopped screaming. 'Now take him to the ER.' As soon as we arrived at the ER the attending physician asked me if we had given him anything & I told him we put Vodka in his ear to which he replied 'You put Vodka in his ear?' Worked like magic. On another trip to Florida, my older son had the croup. Called Dr. Woods late at night once again & told me to put his head in the freezer...again, like magic :)

May Dr. Woods rest in peace and may his memory continue to be a blessing. He was our well loved and respected Doctor in Fairfield for many years. I got the allergy shots and felt very cared for and so did my brother. I had the unique experience of bringing my son to see Dr. Woods when he had a cold, thirty plus years later!

My condolences to the Woods family. I was scrolling passed issues of the Fairfield Citizen online and saw Dr. Woods obit. He was my children's Dr from the mid 70's till they "aged out". I'll share a short story - while I was pregnant with my first in 1974, my husband and I went to a class he was giving at Park City Hospital. I remember him say, "If you want to have 2 children, have 3. Then throw away the first because of all the mistakes you'll make!" And boy did I make mistakes! RIP Dr. Woods

My sister Jean Gallinelli forwarded Dr. Woods obit with his smiling, fresh air photo and beautifully written summation of a life, truly, well-lived. I loved reading about his old-school doctoring...a little alcohol in the ear to cure what ails ya. We've certainly heard a lot about the amazing Chris' work at Real Data to keep things going for so many years. Sincere condolences to family and friends. What a special man. I'd love to know the name of the resort in western Mass where he met his wife. Was it Tanglewood? Jacobs' Pillow? Red Lion Inn? Oak 'n Spruce? (We live close by to these places.) Mary M. Palmer

So very sorry to hear of your loss, Jon, and family. Your father wasn´t just a great pediatrician to so many including us, your parents were early and long friends of my parents since we arrived in Fairfield in 1966. Many laughs shared. And a lot of strep swabs!

Very sad for the Woods family upon reading the loss of your dad, Charles Woods. To my family, he was Dr Woods, beloved pediatrician to our daughters, Aileen, Cara, and Margaret. When Aileen was 5 years old, she had an unmistaken earache. We lived in Milford and it occurred at night on the weekend in the middle of a snowstorm. There were no 24 hour pharmacies then, but it mattered little. It was one of those snowstorms where no one was going anywhere. We called the on-call and luckily, Dr Woods, was on call. He called in a script that would be picked up the following day. Meanwhile, he suggested we instill a few drops of alcohol in her ear to get her through the night. We didn't have isopropyl. so we used Vodka. It worked. Picked up the script and Aileen was back in school on Monday, announcing to her class that Dr Woods told us to put "wine" in her ear. May he rest in peace.

We send our condolences and prayers. Dr Woods was my husband´s, our 4 children and our granddaughter´s doctor. He was the most caring, compassionate and patient dr you could ask for. Dr Woods was also a longtime family friend from church and the community. We were sad when he retired knowing our children and grandchildren would not have the same kind of care, but also rejoiced with him as he was excited about being able to dedicate more of his life to his "fishing career". What a great guy! We know he is looking down from heaven and must be so proud of the man he was and the legacy he left. This world needs more Dr Woods! Rest in Peace man of God. Love, The Warner´s

Dr. Woods was my children's (Andrew & Will Grathwohl) kind and loving pediatrician from the moment they were born until they grew up and moved away from home. Dr. Woods passed our house on Burr Street on his way to the office, and not a day went by without a friendly wave to my children while they waited for the bus. Rest in peace.

Charlie was the doctor for our children, but he was much more than our pediatrician. What happy times we spent with Charlie and Shirley at our homes, in Vermont, in Florida, at the Cape-so many places and such wonderful friends. We cherish the memories we have and send our love to Chris and Jon.

I was fortunate to not only have had Dr. Woods as my pediatrician growing up with my sister's, but our son was lucky enough to be a patient of Dr.Woods as well. I think, I told every nurse I encountered this fun fact because he treated us like family. He was a real gem, a fabulous doctor and loved by all. May you rest in peace.

Many years ago my three children had Dr. Woods as a pediatrician. He was a warm and compassionate doctor. He was very comforting to new young parents.
