Charline Tinnon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 25, 2022.
Charline B. Tinnon, 106, of Redding, CT, formerly of Chappaqua, NY, beloved wife of the late John M. Tinnon (Jack), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at her home in Meadow Ridge retirement community. Born May 8, 1916, to George Jackson Buchanan and Grace Copenhaver Buchanan, in Wythe County, VA, she received her teaching credentials from Marion Junior College in 1934. She also attended the College of William and Mary.
Following a brief teaching career, Charline married Jack on December 20, 1941. After living in several states during and immediately after World War II, she and Jack settled in Chappaqua, where she was a full-time homemaker and mother.
Charline was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) for over 40 years and a founding member of the Chappaqua DAR. She also joined The Mayflower Society to honor her family's heritage. Many of her social activities centered around playing bridge and golf. She played in a daytime bridge club and an evening duplicate bridge club that rotated at players' houses. As a longtime member of Mount Kisco Country Club, she enjoyed rounds of golf with Jack and their friends. She was active for many years in the First Congregational Church of Chappaqua, and greatly valued Reverend Jacobs' visits in the final year of her life.
Charline was predeceased by her brothers, George J. Buchanan and William C. Buchanan, and her sister Sue B. Graham. For many years the four siblings and their spouses enjoyed holding an annual reunion at various beach locations in the southeast.
She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses, Susan T. Dunham and her husband John of West Hartford, CT; and Jean T. Smith and her husband David of Lynch Station, VA; and a granddaughter, Jennifer A. Dunham of Brooklyn, NY.
A private memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Chappaqua. Donations in her memory may be made to the First Congregational Church, 210 Orchard Ridge Road, Chappaqua, NY, 10514
