Charlotte Acuff Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2024.
Charlotte Ann Acuff (née Caraker), age 81, of Ingleside, Illinois, stepped gracefully into eternal rest on August 8, 2024. Born on August 3, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Charlotte's life was defined by her unwavering commitment to her family, her steadfast faith, and her enduring work ethic.
Charlotte moved with her family to DuQuoin, in southern Illinois as a young girl and became a coal miners' daughter, of which she was most proud. As a young woman, she moved back to Chicago and joined the workplace in that bustling city.

Throughout her career, Charlotte displayed a remarkable dedication to her roles at Illinois Bell and later as a respected waitress at the Red Star Inn in Chicago. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as she co-owned and operated Roy's Long Lake Inn in Ingleside, Illinois, with her husband, Roy Acuff, for 47 years. The establishment became a beloved community staple under their stewardship.

Charlotte loved her family and was a proud grandma and great grandma to six wonderful children who brought great joy to her life.

Charlotte's devout Christian faith was central to her life. She was a devoted member of Liberty Community Church in Lake Villa, Illinois, where she found great solace and strength in fellowship and worship.

An accomplished pool player, Charlotte achieved recognition as one of Lake County, Illinois's top female players, a testament to her skill and competitive spirit.

Charlotte's legacy is carried on by her loving family: her son, Mark Acuff, and daughter-in-law, Derisha Acuff; grandsons, Chris and Eric Acuff; great-grandchildren, Alaya, Elijah, and Evan Acuff; grand daughters-in-law, Aja Acuff and Katy Camacho; nieces, Tina Woolsey, Cindy Chapman, and Kathy Carson.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Roy Acuff; grandson, Luke Acuff; her parents, Altheda and Joe Caraker; and her siblings, Millie Woolsey, Bob Berry, and Rita Morgan.

The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring Charlotte's memory at a visitation and funeral service to be held at Strang Funeral Home in Antioch, Illinois, on Saturday, September 14th, from Noon to Four PM. Strang Funeral Home is providing compassionate care and guidance to the family during this solemn time.

Charlotte Ann Acuff's life was a testament to her loving nature, her generous heart, and her unwavering commitment to her community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who were blessed to know her.

Yellow roses...her favorite flowers.
I had the privilege of working for Roy & Char when they owned Roy's Pub in Chicago. The love & respect I have for them both is unmeasurable.
Truly genuinely GOOD people.
So sorry for your loss Mark & family. Your lives were truly blessed.

So many memories of Char. We were teammates, which also included my mother, on the local billiard league for many years. Our team was always in first place and envied by many. Heading to the Milwaukee, WI championship, we took first place several times against very tough competition.

Another fun memory was Char and Roy talking my husband Mike Michalak and me into riding on the party bus taking a trip to Chicago to watch Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls defeat Shaquille O'Neil and the Miami Heat.

A great spirit full of fun, wisdom and class. She will be greatly missed by a lot of people. She was very special to many.

I was reunited with my sister a few years ago and kept in touch by phone and Facebook. We were together at our brother Bob's funeral, and it was great seeing her again. I will miss our phone calls.
