Charlotte Steinmetz Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 6 to Nov. 10, 2023.
Clifton - Charlotte Traum Steinmetz of Clifton, NJ, died peacefully on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, just hours after spending quality time (virtually) with her fitness friends. Charlotte was 92 years young.

Charlotte Traum Steinmetz was born in Newark, NJ on 2/14/1931 to Max and Evelyn Traum. It is no surprise that Charlotte was born on Valentine's Day, a day she celebrated every year by sending cards to 100s of friends and family members. Charlotte's welcoming smile and loving spirit radiated in every space she occupied - she defined Valentine's love.

Charlotte was predeceased by the love of her life, husband, Alfred Steinmetz, her daughter, Nancy Beth McCormick, and by her parents and both of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Weissberger and her grandchildren, Marlene McCormick and Richard McCormick.

As a beloved matriarch of her family, Charlotte is also survived by close cousins and many adoring nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She leaves behind her devoted assistant, Rocio, and scores of friends, especially those in her fitness and craft community.

Charlotte was a woman ahead of her time. She held a Master's Degree in Psychology and taught Psychology for many years at Clifton High School in NJ. She was known for her kindness, intelligence and devotion to health. Charlotte was a woman of many talents and excelled in everything she put her keen mind to, including knitting and stained glass art. She participated in a huge array of classes and workshops, caring for mental and physical health, always expanding her mind and skills. This extraordinary woman has impacted so many lives with her goodness and gifts. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Friends and family are invited to share memories at a community memorial gathering at Charlotte's home-away-from-home, The Total Workout studio, 127 Grove Street, Montclair, NJ on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 10:15. All are welcome.

I met Charlotte as a freshman at Syracuse University in 1948 and we have been very good friends ever since. She was the matron of honor at my wedding! We talked in the phone ever since until the very end. She is with me every day.

I met Charlotte back in the 80's at the Phoenicia
Pathwork Center during an Emmanuel Weekend.
Her warmth, kindness, and sense of humor were a gift. I admired her braveness and courage throughout the years, especially as her physical challenges intensified.
I will miss her yearly Valentine's Day card and hearing her voice when I would call her to wish her a Happy Birthday.
I hope you're dancing Dear Friend!
