Charlotte T. Garlough, age 96, passed away March 29, 2024, at Freedom Village in Holland, Michigan.

Charlotte was born June 15, 1927, in Seattle, Washington to William Max Tanzer and Miriam Sherman Tanzer. In 1934 Charlotte and her mother Miriam moved to their Potsdam, NY family-owned farm built in 1803. It was there that she was raised with her siblings Sally and George Anderson. In Potsdam, she met her future husband, William Glenn Garlough, while he was serving during WWII in the Marine Corps. They were married June 15, 1947.

Charlotte graduated from SUNY Potsdam in 1947 earning a B.S. Degree with a Major in Elementary Education. They moved to Watertown, NY where they raised their three children: Jennifer, William and Robert.

Charlotte led an active life pursuing her interests in watercolor painting, singing, bridge, photography, genealogy and gourmet cooking. For 14 years she volunteered as a Presbyterian Lay Chaplain. Upon her daughter Jenny's declining health, she frequently assisted her daughter and family in East Aurora, NY. She also supported her husband, Bill, in his home-based consulting business.

In 2004, Charlotte and Bill moved to Freedom Village in Holland, Michigan where they enjoyed a full and varied lifestyle with many friends, activities and travel.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; daughter, Jennifer Evereth; and brother, George Anderson. She is survived by her sister, Sally Tupper Sherman Dingsoyr of Potsdam, NY; her children, William and Karen (Mangold) Garlough, and Robert and Elsy (Sarkis) Garlough; grandchildren, Jonathan and Hannah (Griffin) Garlough, Katherine Evereth, Jeremy and Elizabeth (Reick) Garlough, Kristen Garlough and husband Chris Haugh; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held May 3 at 2:00 pm in the auditorium at Freedom Village Holland, Michigan. Arrangements are by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, www.langelandsterenberg.com.
